Modern love is getting a text back within at least two minutes, its "Netflix and chill", and making sure they've liked your Instagram post. Modern love is making sure they have posted you on their Snapchat, Twitter, and oh don't forget to make it official on Facebook too. Modern love doesn't start from meeting in class, or your job, or your little brother's basketball game, it starts with swiping right on Tinder. Modern love is saying "I don't want anything serious" because it just isn't "cool" to be tied down anymore.
Modern heartbreak is being left on read. It is blocking and unblocking and blocking again. It's deleting all the Instagram pictures you have posted of them. Modern heartbreak is when they say "I'm going to bed", even though they are still tweeting. There's no such thing as dates, and god forbid you have the "what are we talk". Modern heartbreak is messy because everyone sees it; messy because it's public.
Modern love is praying to god they make their profile picture one that includes you, it's sending nudes when you "trust" they won't show anyone else, and saying I love you for the first time over text. Modern love is being their best friend on Snapchat, and having screenshots of compliments and professions of love posted on VSCO. It's thinking that liking someone's selfie three times in a row is flirting. Modern love is "you have to love yourself before others love you".
Modern heartbreak is drinking so much you throw up, but their name still burns your throat more than the vodka ever will. It's losing your virginity and not even getting a text the next day. Modern heartbreak is saying "fuck feelings" because no one has those right? Modern heartbreak is finally having the courage to delete their contact from your phone when really it doesn't matter because you know you'll find it again the next time you want to call. Modern heartbreak is subtweets back and forth. Modern heartbreak is getting "unfollowed".
Modern relationships are different, we close ourselves off, we are anti-love, anti-relationships, anti-romance.
