“No matter the amount of negativity you’re presented with, 5 minutes from now could be your best moment." -Mod Sun

If you aren't familiar with the artist Mod Sun, I urge you to get acquainted as soon as possible.

Mod Sun stands for "Movement on dreams, Stand under none." Mod is a musician, poet, rapper and to me, a teacher. His music is positive, uplifting and full of wisdom which resonates deeply with his audience. I've learned many life lessons through Mod's books, poems, lyrics, and even some tweets.

The biggest concept I've learned from Mod is the law of attraction. In his book "Did I Ever Wake Up?" he talks about the concept that what you think, you become. In it he says, "Walk outside and look up. The sky is endless and filled with possibility." So much of Mod's influence comes from the fact that he simply thinks positively--something that sometimes is hard to do. By thinking positively, however, positive things really do occur to us.

In one of Mod's songs called "1970" he says, "On a journey to unite the world and no one can slow me, impossible says 'I'm possible.'" Impossible says I'm possible. Though to some this could just be catchy writing, to me and many others it's a message. Anything that you're going through that seems unachievable is within your reach. This kind of motivation (or MODivation, as a weekly series he created is called) doesn't come easily to many, and Mod is taking charge and giving it to everyone--because he truly believes in it.

Mod Sun walks to the beat of his own drum. He is one of the most unique artists, writers and men I've ever come across. Of course, I've never met him personally, but part of his appeal is that he makes his fans (called the Friendbase--how uplifting is that?) feel as though they have. He has a seemingly constant presence on social media interacting with fans, showing sneak peeks of his work and creative process and sending out positive messages. Mod is one who truly brings others along with him on the journey of life.

To say that Mod Sun is wise seems to be an understatement to me. Even throughout this article, I don't feel as though I'm capturing his essence correctly--and I think he would life that, because it means he is his own unique person, indescribable and incomparable. I think the only way for someone to understand Mod Sun's work, mind or effect is to listen to his music, read his books or look at his art.

For me and countless others, Mod Sun has made an incredible, positive impact on the world. Thank you, my hippy.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
