Every year, thousands of men and woman, both young and old, buy tickets, fill stadiums and talk trash to others about their respected football teams. At the same time, almost that many people are also signing up, logging in, and talking trash to others about their fantasy football team as well. Just like political issues and lawyers, everyone has an opinion about their team and how to create a successful fantasy roster. I was looking over my previous teams from last year, noticing how dominate I was and sulking about my decision(s) that ruined my playoff run ,i.e. playing Calvin Johnson at all last year, and I decided to go ahead and enlighten all you wannabes on how to successfully take control of your fantasy league.
First off, Just so you know, I float QB's week to week based off matchup. I usually will grab ONE top QB early in the draft, from then on I plug and play from the waiver over the course of the season.
Secondly, don’t worry about drafting a defense unless you're in a position to get one of the top 3 or 4, Denver, Arizona, Seattle, Carolina. I plug and play my way thru every year and have never been In trouble because my defense.
Thirdly, PPR format WR's first. Regular scoring RB's first. Its mostly going to be based off personal preference but that’s just the way I like to look at things. If you're playing some crazy made up point scoring system that you and your buddies came up with, then I can't help you. You and your buddies need to quit trying being Roger Goodell and control everything, and just go back to playing the normal socially acceptable scoring methods.
Now that you know a little bit about the way I draft , let take a look at my wish list for 2016. I will try to make selections based off a snake draft for a ten team league in regular scoring format and me having the first pick, which means I would also have the 20th & 21st picks.
With the first pick of the NFL fantasy draft I am taking, Adrian Peterson. AP played in 16 games last year and carried the ball 327 times for 1,485 yards and 11 Td's. If there is one thing that is for sure, its that the Vikes are going to run the ball "all day".
(all picks in between have been simulated)
2.Antonio Brown WR, Pit.
3.Todd Gurly RB, LA.
4.Le'Veon Bell RB, Pit. (even though he is suspended at the moment, someone will take him)
5.Odell Beckham WR, NYG.
6.Julio Jones WR, ATL.
7.Jamaal Charles RB, KC.
8. DeAndre Hopkins WR, Hou.
9.Dez Bryant WR, Dal.
10. David Johnson RB, ARI.
-Round 2-
11. Jordy Nelson WR, GB.
12. LeSean McCoy RB, BUF.
13.A.J. Green WR, CIN.
14.Thomas Rawls RB, SEA.
15. Demaryius Thomas WR, DEN
16.Devonta Freeman RB, ATL.
17.Allen Robinson WR, JAC.
18 Alshon Jeffery WR, CHI.
19. Doug Martin RB, TB.
At the 20th pick in the draft my second selection will be, Amari Cooper WR, OAK. Anyone who watched this guy play at Alabama knows the skills he's got. Last year Cooper recorded 72 catches for 1,070 and 6 TDs. He has yet to reach his full potential, and I don’t think he will hit his ceiling this year. Even though he is questionable to the likes of other great receivers that are still out there, I think if you wait till the 40th pick he made be gone, and that’s a risk I don’t want to take.
-Round 3-
Lucky me! I also have the 21st pick as well so I will be taking Mr. Cam Newton QB, CAR. As I mentioned earlier, if you can get a great QB early don’t worry about snagging another big name. Cam is the best of the best in my opinion. He runs and throws as well as being the MVP from last year. Sure you can take an Aaron Rodgers or gamble with a Blake Bortles, but let's be honest neither of them do what cam is capable of doing down the stretch. If you don’t make the push to grab him early someone else will, and round three is already going to be high for him in my opinion.
22. T.Y. Hilton WR, Indy.
23.Carlos Hyde RB, SF.
24.Mike Evans WR, TB.
25.Sammy Watkins WR, BUF.
26.Aaron Rodgers QB, GB.
27.Brandin Cooks WR, NO.
28.Jeremy Hill RB, CIN.
29.DeMarco Murray RB, TN.
30.Keenan Allen WR, SD.
-Round 4-
31. Golden Tate
32.T.J. Yeldon RB, JAC
33.Rob Gronkowski TE, NE.
34.Ezekiel Elliott RB, DAL.
35. Jordan Reed TE, WAS.
36. Martavis Bryant WR, PIT.
37. Tyler Eifert TE, CIN
38. Latavius Murray RB, OAK.
39. Randall Cobb WR, GB.
At the 40th pick, I will take Kelvin Benjamin. Even though he was hurt last year it was understood he was becoming Newtons number one after the 2014 season. With him returning to the line-up and hopefully remaining healthy, he should play well over what anyone expects him too, that’s why I would make the play for him later than sooner.
-round 5-
With the 41st pick, I would love to take Greg Olsen right here but my faith in Benjamin outweighs my want for Olsen, so I will be picking up Travis Kelce TE, KC. He has played in all 16 games in both 2014 and '15, and his reception total continues to climb. I look for Kelce to come out with a monster year.
42.Lamar MIller Rb, MIA.
43.Jonathan Stewart RB, CAR.
44. Eddie Lacy RB, GB.
45. Jarvis Landry WR, MIA.
46.Greg Olsen TE, CAR.
47.C.J. Anderson RB, DEN.
48. John Brown WR, ARI.
49.Allen Hurns WR, JAC.
50.Emmanuel Sanders WR, DEN.
As I previously said, I simulated the draft picks in between and chose what I believe to be the best team I could around what I was given. I know there are some of you out there that have comments on how this draft looks and I do too, so feel free to fire away in the comments section. I just got so excited for football I had to jump the gun and release a little fantasy article. I encourage everyone to comment on this and let me know what I did wrong and how I could have made better selections. Please keep in mind that this was only five rounds.
