Coffee is delicious. It has dominated breakfast worldwide for decades. Some take their coffee black, while others enjoy coffee with milk, sugar, or flavored creamers. There are also espresso drinks, which offer a more luxurious experience. A cafe latte is an espresso served with frothy milk. A breve is an espresso served with cream. A cortado is an espresso served with an equally small amount of milk to reduce the acidity of the espresso. An americano is an espresso served with extra water so that the entire concoction resembles an ordinary cup of coffee. Generally, espresso is a dark roast, so it does not have as much caffeine content as regular coffee, but one espresso drink is more decadent in comparison to others: a cafe mocha. If you are looking to perform better at work, then a black cup of light-roast coffee is your best bet, but if you are looking for a good time, a cafe mocha might be in order. As its name suggests, a mocha is a milky espresso drink with chocolate melted into it, and you need not be a barista to make it. In fact, you can make a mocha in your own home. Here is how.
1.The Coffee
While a mocha is an espresso drink, you can use other types of coffee, including lighter roasts and concentrated coffee, which needs only to be immediately poured into the mug or glass. Since most people have immediate access to coffee instead of espresso, feel free to use regular coffee as a substitute. Even decaf will do the trick. A mocha is not something that will energize you anyway. All you need is the bitter, nutty, and rich flavor of coffee. The quality does not matter as much since this coffee is going to have to get along with other flavors.
2.Chocolate Syrup
The key here is not to squirt the store-bought stuff into the mug immediately. Syrup should be part of a syrup you build yourself. In addition to store-bought syrup, your homemade concoction should include: cocoa powder, sugar, and water to amplify the chocolate flavor. While store-bought chocolate syrup may immediately seem powerful, it must be unpleasantly sweet to genuinely combat the bitterness of the coffee. Add a tablespoon of each aforementioned ingredient to the mug.
3.The Milk
At popular coffee joints, 2% milk is most common, but you can use any milk you want. Skim milk will not make it any worse, though the more fat your milk contains, the richer and creamier your decadent concoction will be. Skim milk may not go very far in the interest of preserving your waistline because you still need to add the cream.
4.Heavy Cream
This step is optional, but if you are drinking a mocha, then why kid yourself into thinking it can be healthy? A dollop of cream adds more richness and depth to the coffee. Half-and-half also works if that is all you have. While it is not necessary to add, you may enjoy it in such a way that it might be worth including.
5.Putting It All Together
In a saucepan or microwave-safe receptacle, stir the sugar, cocoa powder, and water together. If you are using the stove, stir the sauce until it is entirely uniform and smooth. If you are using the microwave, then remove the bowl from the microwave every 30 seconds and stir zealously until the contents are smooth and uniform. Once you have completed the syrup, add both the coffee and the milk, continuing to heat until the whole thing is steaming. If you are adding everything together on a stove, then you can whisk the mixture until it is foamy. Once you are done with that, then you can pour it into a cup, top it with whipped cream, and enjoy.
6.A Portable Option
If you would like to enjoy a mocha at work or bring it on a road trip, then here is what you can do. Combine all the ingredients in a mason jar. Make sure the jar is very secure. That is, in addition to securely fastening the lid, wrap a towel around the jar to make sure nothing leaks. When you are ready to drink your mocha, then shake the jar until the contents are mixed well and the milk is foamy. Immediately pour everything into a mug and microwave the drink for 30 seconds or until the drink steams.
7.Consider Other Variations
Modify your mocha by introducing other flavors like peppermint, caramel, and white chocolate. To introduce peppermint, you need only to crush an entire candy cane into the syrup. Once you add the candy cane to the syrup, simply stir the whole thing until it is homogenous. Just refrain from doing it too often!
