"Moana", the newest Disney movie, is an instant classic! Backed by a score by the one and only Lin Manuel Miranda, the film features songs such as "You're Welcome", "How Far I'll Go", "We Know the Way" and "Shiny". Each song is sung by talented actors such as Dwayne Johnson, portraying Maui, Auli'i Cravalho, Moana, and Jemaine Clement, Tamatoa. Outside of the score, the movie presents gorgeous animation and a powerful and bright plot.
In addition to each of those factors and more, Moana is not searching for love in this film. Before seeing "Moana", I had heard that she would not have a love interest written into the show and I was, quite honestly, worried. I always look forward to watching fictional couples fall in love, and I thought for sure I would feel the lack of such couples in this movie. However, when the lights came up in the theater, I realized I had not even noticed that a love interest was not included. The plot, acting, and score stood more than well enough on its own, proving to the public and the writers that a romantic relationship is not always necessary. Quite honestly, I feel a relationship of that sort would simply have gotten in the way of this film.
Instead of falling in love will a person, she falls in love with the sea as this beautiful picture opens. She feels a deep and adamant pull to set sail, though she knows she must stay on her island and eventually become her villages chief. However, such knowledge cannot keep a girl on a mission at bay, and she finds herself out at sea on a voyage to rescue her home. The plot only thickens from there in this must-see show!
All this and more make Disney's "Moana" a number one Thanksgiving debut!
