College is scary. Moving out is scary. Taking college classes is scary. Selling your gently used clothes online so that you have enough spending money to afford name brand groceries for once, is scary.
But luckily for us girls at Missouri State University, thanks to the Facebook group "Missouri State Gals Sell Your Stuff!!!" all these things can be just a little less scary.
The group was started a few years ago by some girls whose names I don't know, but I am forever indebted to. The concept was simple, a Facebook page to sell things that are a little bit safer than Craigslist, but it has turned into a group that is so much more. This group is enhancing college experiences left and right.
Need to sell your stuff? Post it in Mo State Gals. Need class recommendations on which professors to take and to avoid? Ask the Mo State Gals. Do you ACTUALLY need the book for that gen ed class this semester?
Mo State Gals know all the study tips. Short on cash and need a second job? Mo State Gals know all the places hiring. Just broke up with your boyfriend and want some cute outfits for the club? Mo State Gals want to help you make your ex regret it all.
One of the best things that have been happening in this group is the community of girls supporting and looking out for other girls. Being a college-age girl on your own is not only scary, but it can be dangerous.
Girls are constantly posting with safety tips and warnings for the rest of us. If something sketchy happens to any of the almost 7,000 members she can post to warn the rest of the group and keep everyone safe. That's what I call a community.
So thank you, Missouri State Gals Sell Your Stuff!!!, for helping me expand my closet, make some extra cash, know which professors to take and avoid, and stay safe during my college experience.
