Tackling the OA.

M&M Review of Netflix Shows

Netflix has succeeded at producing great shows such as the Strangers Things, Making A Murderer, Santa Clarita Diet and much more. I could go on and on about these particular shows and how much everyone LOVES them but the latest hit is the OA. What is it about this show that has people so fascinated? I have heard it mentioned from countless people, from my roommate to my classmates, they all seem to love the show even if they don't care for the ending. Me and the lovely Makena have decided to join forces and see for ourselves how great the show is or how amazing, interesting or simply intriguing the show really is.

Our prediction before watching the show:

Makena: Lately, I have heard of the uproar of the newest most publicized Netflix series, the OA. I will admit I was a bit intrigued by what I had been hearing, but I hadn't put in the time to watching the series. I assumed it was going to be a thriller like that of the show Stranger Things. Even from reading reviews on the show, I was still confused on the concept of it. In my mind I pictured a little girl, whom which was quite strange as a child and blind, disappearing for seven years and then coming back to her town grown now, unexpectedly with unsolved mysteries. It seemed to me as if the woman had gone through frightening trauma in her past and was also seen as maybe "the chosen one." After some research, I decided to take a jab at the first episode to fulfill my questions regarding the show.

Madison: Like Makena, I have also heard of the praises of the the show, my roommate watched it and loved it. She explained how it blew her mind and that I should watch it as well, honestly I didn't think much of it when she was explaining. My classmates have also mentioned the show praising it as well, while laughing like there is a hidden joke that i am missing out on. Is it really that mind blowing? I think the show would be alright, not my kind show but I am willing to give it try; I find it weird that the plot of the story is extremely weird and just confusing. I am going into to this with no idea of what the show can offer, hopefully I won't be royally screwed.

Our reactions after watching episode 1:

Madison: I think this picture above can expresses how I looked like when I finished the 1st episode. I was utterly confused and just sitting in bed thinking "what did I just watch?" The show defiently challenges you and makes you think about what exactly is gong on around you. There was only one scene that seemed normal or cute, it was when the girl, The AO, goes shopping with her neighbor for clothes. Besides that moment every scene confused me, well more like it intrigued me. I also agree with Makena that I will continue to watch the rest of the series purely because I have questions and I need them answered; I would also recommend this show to anyone who is in a show slump, tt really is good and intrigues you to no end.

Makena: After watching the first episode of the series, I had a new insight to what the show is really all about. The show captures your attention throughout the entire episode, but makes you question humanity in many outlooks. Who is she? And why did she come back now? We find out many clues in the first episode such as, her parents are not her true biological parents. I asked myself at one point, "Did she leave her home seven years ago for a reason?" "Is the place the audience calling her home, really her home?" I can truly say that the OA captured my interest and I will continue to finish out the season to find the truth behind it all and I encourage others that are interested to as well.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
