After another incredible regular season, we are down to four teams in their respective championship series, and I'd like to take the time to both recognize and give a snapshot review of all their work to this point:
National League Championship Series
Chicago Cubs (103-58)
The Cubs find themselves at a 1-1 tie in their seven-game championship series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs are on a historic run, having not won a World Series title in over 100 years, as they have been plagued by the dreaded goat curse. They are the every-day sports fan's team to win it, and are certainly a sexy favorite to hoist the World Series title at the end of the season. Led by a dominant pitching staff and a plethora of young talent, look out for the Cubs to potentially "raise the W" in the form of a World Series title.
Los Angeles Dodgers (91-71)
Trying to stop the Cubs' historic, emotion-driven run are the Dodgers of Los Angeles. In terms of their lineup, the Dodgers are still recovering in the wake of a budget blowout in 2014, so they are led by both seasoned veterans in the form of Chase Utley and Adrian Gonzalez as well as young studs like Corey Seager and Joc Pederson. It doesn't hurt to have arguable one of the best arms in the game with Clayton Kershaw. Look for this series to go deep as pitching dominates competition.
American League Championship Series
Toronto Blue Jays (89-73)
The series favorite Blue Jays have their backs against the wall down 3-0 in a series with the Indians. Fueled by the most potent lineup in baseball, the Jays slugged their way through the talented AL East led by former MVP Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, Jose Bautista, and Edwin Encarnacion. Don't count them out as the 6 is always hot, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a repeat of the 2004 ALCS.
Cleveland Indians (94-67)
What else is there to say about this scrappy bunch from Believe-land? They play team baseball and have been flawless through thus far in the playoffs. The series goes back home to Cleveland for game 4, and they just might give themselves a chance to follow the Cavs in bringing two championships to the sports-crazy city in the same year, because God knows the Browns aren't going to do it.
