Meet The New Editor In Chief

Hey, everyone!

My name is Devin Edgar and I am officially the new Editor in Chief for Mississippi State's team of Odyssey. I know it is a little late in the year, especially with there only being about five weeks left in the Spring semester, but I am so excited to take on this position here.

Just a brief introduction: I was born and raised in Pensacola, and somehow found my way to the charming, little, college town of Starkville, Mississippi. I'm a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, and I proudly wear the crown. I'm a proud proponent of breakfast for dinner, coffee at midnight, and oxford commas. The most important thing, though, is my incredible love for writing, the field of Journalism, and Odyssey. So, that is why I'm so excited to be the EIC.

I started writing for Odyssey shortly after the Fall semester started as a Psychology major. I started with no great intentions, or expectations, but it really changed everything for me. I realized just how much I loved writing, and how much it meant to have my voice heard. I want everyone else to have this same opportunity as well.

This year, Mississippi State has reached record-breaking enrollment numbers. With that being said, I know that there are tons of talented people that can bring so much to our team of Odyssey. Our team hasn't taken off as much as I hoped, nor has it taken off as much as I know it can, but I know that it will in the future. We all go to such a great school — a school that has so many stories to tell.

I'm hoping to open this team up to everyone — males, females, Greeks, and non-Greeks. I want everyone to get the chance to have their words, thoughts, and opinions, heard.

If anyone who comes across this has any questions, and would like to get involved, please feel free to contact me, or anyone on Staff. Applications are also always available to submit online as well. Also, if you have any ideas that you feel like would better Odyssey community at Mississippi State — send them in! I can't wait to continue this community on our campus.

So, cheers to a fresh start! I look forward to serving such a great college community.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
