High school was a time that was different for everyone. Some say it was the best years of their life, and some say it was the worst years of their life. Either way, high school was a big part of our lives at some point, and a lot of people tried to make the most of their time there. With me, I participated in different extracurricular activities throughout the school to make my time in high school the best it could possibly be. There was one thing that made my time in high school the most memorable it could be, my high school sports team.
High school sports were a whole other level if you were a part of a team. They had their fun times, bad times, and serious times. They made you be surrounded by the best people every day that pushed you to work harder and play harder through every situation. The bus rides to and from meets, the adrenaline rush you got before a race, and the feeling of relief you got as soon as you crossed the finish line. When I was in those moments, I never realized that just a couple years later while I was in college that I'd be missing all of those aspects that were a huge part of my life for four years.
Being on some kind of team in middle and high school gave you a sense of validation that you were doing something with yourself. You stayed active, you were involved in your school, you met so many new people, and you felt successful in the end. Being in college now, I look back on all of my memories and wish I could just run one last time on my high school team. High school was a hard time, but those teams gave you a special kind of happiness that is hard to find after you graduate. The most activity a college student does now is walk to and from class, and you can't be on a sports team without being insanely incredible at a sport. Sports in high school welcomed anyone who had the desire and passion to play hard in the game or run their hearts out on the track.
We never look back on what good we had until it was gone, and realized we had taken so much for granted.
To my high school sport, I really do miss you.
