A Letter To My Best Friend
Jaeden Aristilde

Dear Charlotte,

I officially only have six days before I leave you for months at a time for the next four years. And after that, we will be apart for longer because I'll be grown. Four days after I leave, you'll be turning one, and mom said we could have a party for you before we leave, but it won't be the same.

You're a fairly new addition to the family, a gift given to us last Christmas. You were so tiny and fluffy, but still as rambunctious as you are right now. I was upset that we had gotten you so late, because my time with you was so limited, and I was closer to the age where I could refer to you as "my parents' dog" since that's where you're located.

Nevertheless, you're my pup. We sleep together, we eat together, we play together. You're with me when I take my showers (only because I can't trust you in my bedroom alone), and you follow me around like a duck. You love belly rubs and you leap like a gazelle whenever you go to your toys. You can jump three feet in the air (which is kind of startling) and you're our own miniature guard dog.

When I'm having a rough day, you're always so excited to see me and make me feel loved with kisses all over my face. Even though you're a bit rough, I can't help but laugh and smile when you try to bite me with your baby teeth.

I don't know what I'm going to do without you at school, Charlie. If only they allowed dogs to come to college, I would never have a bad day. The only problem would be the fact that you eat my homework and lay across my computer when I'm typing, but those are tribulations that we can look past.

For the first time since we got you, I was gone. I went to New York for two months, leaving you alone with our parents. God, that was a horrible decision. They shaved you bald, and you were unrecognizable. I could see it in your face how much you hated it but girl, you were so cute. Now, I'll be leaving for another two months, and even thoughI've had this experience before, I will still miss you the same.

Right now, you're on my lap, sniffing the keyboard and giving me typos. You keep trying to lick my face, but clearly, I'm busy. I will miss you dearly and I will most definitely make the next/last six days we have together the most fun.

I love you!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
