Missing Our Best Friend

When you high-key need to see your BFF again.

Your best friend. The go-to guy or girl that you can share anything with, from random comments to late night video chats to impromptu food dates. And maybe you don't talk to them every second of the day, but they do make up a major part of your daily lifestyle. So when they are out of town or extremely busy for some reason, you can't help but miss them and your hangouts. There are a lot of pros to having a best friend, one of them being that it doesn't matter how much time or distance occurs- after everything, they're still your best friend. But there are some of the cons to when your best friend is not with you, or can't speak to you for whatever reason, and you can't help feeling this way when they are gone.

1. You wonder who to go to for the latest piece of gossip or story that you are just dying to tell them. They may be on vacation but they're still your go-to for the 4-1-1! Besides, telling them the details of everything in the moment is way more exciting.

2. You seriously start missing them. After all, you spend a lot of time talking to them and hanging out with them, so it's not that fun to not see them as often. BFF, come back to me.

3. Finding out a time and place where you can catch up is very important. Whether it's a quick FaceTime or meeting in a cafe to grab food, you make sure to make time for them, and try to make yourself be more patient.

4. Not getting to spend time with your BFF means figuring out to with that extra free time, so you end up trying to figure out what to do instead, such as binge-watching. Netflix will just have to become a temporarily replacement.

5. Sending daily texts and phone calls letting them know that you miss them and that they need to get back pronto! The phone bill isn't as big of an issue as missing your best friend after all.

6. The moment you realize their seriously lacking importance on your social media. Who can upload new pictures when their best friend is somewhat MIA? Also your snapchat streak is longer than your actual face to face conversations, that needs to be changed.

7. When you see them, it's a party! No one does fun times and new memories like a pair of best friends. And even though you missed them terribly, you know that when they return it'll be just like old times.

So let's be honest, missing your best friend is not a fun past time, but be happy and lucky that you have someone that you can go to for someone and misses you just as much as you miss them. Shoutout to all the amazing best friends out there!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
