Why I Missed Statesboro While Home For The Summer

While clothes were being packed, dorms were being cleaned, and the textbooks were being closed, freshman year was coming to an end. My first year at Georgia Southern went pretty well and I was looking forward to starting another. With technology being so advanced, I wasn’t really afraid to say I wouldn’t miss my friends. All of my friends that I made in the past year were only a tweet, a Snapchat, a text, a phone call, and a drive away! With that being said, there truly were a few things I missed while being out of Statesboro.

Let me start out with Dingus. Whether it was a quick happy hour get together with a few friends after a long day, or an all night celebration after a really long week, Dingus was always there. After being a camp counselor for many weeks over the summer, sliding into a booth and resting my elbows on one of those wooden tables was the only thing I craved.

Gnat’s comes in at a close second. It’s friendly and inviting atmosphere had me wishing I was eating their food rather than chasing children. Whenever my parents came to visit, Gnat’s for lunch was always the plan.

At the end of the day it’s always the Statesboro Sunsets that made me happy to call Statesboro my second home. My snapchat stories of the Atlanta sky just never compared.

While I missed so much about Statesboro, being back has reminded me of those things that I don’t miss. The hundreds of puddles that form after a few inches of rain, the constant revving of lifted pickup trucks, and my friends at parking and transportation. Regardless, I’m so excited to be back with freshmen year behind me and sophomore year right here in front of me!

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
