Even though Thanksgiving break just passed and I was able to spend time in Rochester it is slowly beginning to feel as if I’ve been gone a lifetime. I've missed many things since I've gone off to college and Wegmans being one of the most amazing stores there are makes the top of my list of what I missed most about Rochester. This would be confirmed by anyone native to the Rochester area, Wegmans is always a second home. I will be spending many long hours pacing their hallways, taking in the missed and beloved work of good ol’ Danny Wegmans.
Downtown Rochester has always been one of my favorite places, from the Strong Museum to the abandoned subway there is nothing not to love about downtown. Downtown there are so many things to do, from Java’s where you can sit and play pool and drink coffee or the liberty pole that stands with lights strung from its base to the top lit every evening. The place I missed the most in downtown Rochester is this church, a half burnt down church that no one ever uses except maybe the homeless. There is a hidden beauty within this building and on a day to day basis people pass by it. There are so many hidden treasures within Rochester that I have missed since I have moved.
Not all of the fun is downtown though and you do not have to travel far to have a great time. Mendon Ponds is a local park which has many hiking trails and even a small beach like area. With that five minute drive there are so many memories that can happen, bringing food and hanging out with people at a park. Even traveling to a neighboring town to walk along the Erie Canal while eating the most amazing frozen custard in the world.
There are many things to do when you live in a town that you take for granted like the little things that would be fun for anyone who comes to visit. However when you move away for a period of time there will always be those things that you long to do. I for one cannot wait to be wrapped up in the finest Rochester has to offer me for an entire month before my next semester life begins.
