A Poem For The Pet I Miss

No words or talking needed to be exchanged it was joyous in the moment.

They coming running when you get home.

Instantly boosting your mood no matter how your day was.

Or your week was.

Or your month was.

The joyous leap to kiss your ankles.

Yes.

Your pets.

In college we often lack that welcoming grin, and soft face when we get home.

The smile that knows you feed them, cuddle with them, and love them.

They give you nothing but endless love.

Coming home for the first time from college.

I said hi to my dog before my mom.

Well honestly she said hi to me, but I went with it.

No doubt.

That cute fluffy best friend of mine sprinted right to me.

Be sure to ask to see your furry friend.

While you FaceTime, or Skype mom and dad.

Keep in touch with your pets and your parents.

Just seeing your lovely animal can boost your mood.

Theres nothing like a cuddling with your pup after a long day.

Every time I see a dog or any animal at college

I get over come with joy and rush over to it to pet it.

Of course then I realize I don't have an animal here and it makes me sad.

I used to wake up to my dog fast asleep, and snoring next to me.

And now I wake up to my dog-less bed, and dog-less life.

When I'm stressed out the stress is even worse than it usually is.

Another way to start conversation other than…

Where are you from? or what’s your major is?

is often, do you miss your dog?

This is mainly an ode to the dog owners in this world because I am a dog lover.

But people miss their pets in general.

It doesn't matter if it's a dog, cat, bird or even fish.

Some people cry over missing a significant other and I cry because I miss my dog.

I cannot wait to be reunited with my dog over Thanksgiving and Christmas break.

Nothing can compare to having everyone together, and playing with your best pal.

I often debate on ways to hide my dog in my dorm room.

Dogs are a big part of our families and we don't give them enough credit honestly.

They create a bond,

and having them around takes away hostile moments.

And family arguments.

Who could fight around an adorable creature.

Here at WSU there are many different ways to get involved with animals.

We have a club that works specifically with birds, and my sorority makes a point to visit the humane society.

There is even an opportunity to work with horses here.

And many more.

I personally love going to the humane society.

Being with out a dog often makes you think about getting another one.

Now that you miss your pup you don't want to leave him or her alone.

You win and they win.

Another friend for them and you.

At the end of the night I know its normal to want to cuddle up to a pet.

You could be with your pet in pure comfortable silence.

You were there for each other to just sit there.

You could do nothing together and it was a great time.

No words or talking needed to be exchanged it was joyous in the moment.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
