Please stop chewing like a cow. It is actually repulsive. Why are you coughing and sniffling in class? You should have just stayed in bed… Is there a reason you are tapping your pen on your desk? Do you not see a room full of other people when you look around?
These are the thoughts that clog my mind most of the day. Hearing these unnecessary sounds actually gives me anxiety. I struggle to sit at the dinner table without having to tell someone to chew quietly. I find myself physically plugging my ears when around sounds I just cannot deal with. I never understood how these noises that bother me so deeply and effect me so strongly go unnoticed by other people… I thought I was so weird and that there was something wrong with me. Well there is, but I am not alone, and neither are you.
Misophonia is a condition in which a person reacts irrationally to certain sounds that most people take little or no notice of. Believe it or not, there are many tips to help minimize your sensitivity and manage your individual symptoms. I think the best way to solve the issue is to be straight up. Tell the person to cut it out, they will hopefully feel embarrassed and humiliated and silence their obnoxious practices. We can fix this guys. One confrontation at a time.
YOU'RE NOT ALONE. MISOPHONIA IS REAL.
