College can be fun and games for the most part. However, our main purpose for attending college is for the higher education and to graduate with a diploma. This means we need to register for classes and attend the classes that we pay for, one way or another. All college students have skipped a lecture or two...maybe even skipped a large majority of the class. However, to the students who do attend class, let's be honest for a moment and agree that we are not always paying attention during class. Therefore, here are five things that students do when they are not paying attention in class.
1. Browsing The Internet
Students usually take out their laptops to take notes, but that's not necessarily the case. It is pretty easy to get distracted when trying to take notes on your laptop. Whether you're checking Facebook updates, online shopping for random things you don't really need or reading posts on Reddit, your laptop can be your best or worst enemy when it comes to class time. You probably constantly change tabs from one different page to another and then write a few notes down from time to time.
2. Checking Your Phone
Whether someone texted you or not, you check your phone at least once during class. Even if it is just to check the time, checking your phone is just habitual. The moment you unlock your phone, you might want to just check a few apps. You can read a few posts on Yik Yak, take a selfie using one of Snapchat's new filters, double tap on a few pictures on Instagram, swipe left and right on Tinder and read some tweets on Twitter, until you decide to get off your phone and actually try to pay attention.
3. Studying For Another Class
When you're cramming for a midterm or final, many of us tend to study in other classes to maximize our time for studying for the exam. If you are not studying for a different class, then sometimes you are finishing up an assignment for another class. Somehow, I like to think that I can pay attention when the professor is lecturing and do other assignments at the same time...which is usually never the case.
4. Checking Your Grades
When I get an exam or assignment back, I always check my grades online to see how it impacted my overall grade. Whether I did well or not, I always end up calculating what I can get on my midterm and final to get an A in the class or sometimes just to pass the class. But whatever the case is, this calculator is always there to do the math for you.
5. Napping
Waking up early for class is a pretty difficult task in the mornings. Honestly, 8 a.m. classes are definitely the worst, and nine out of 10 times, falling asleep in class is involved. However, any class in a large lecture hall is the perfect setting for a nap.
