When you go to my Instagram profile, you'll find a few things: too many pictures of my dogs, a few of my husband, a couple of selfies and a quote from Miranda Lambert. People probably think I'm just obsessed with a celebrity, but that's not the reason I have her quote on my profile.
Listen to just a few of her songs or read just a little bit about her, and you'll learn quickly that Miranda is unequivocally one of the most badass women you'll ever hear about. Sure, I love her music, but I also love what she stands for and believes in. She's the perfect blend of "I'll mess you up if you screw with me" and "I can be vulnerable." And she's always confident in her skin, regardless of her size or clothing.
A couple of years ago, I got to attend one of her concerts. I was surprised when Lambert came onto the stage in cutoff shorts, a tank top and a bandana around her head. It was clear that the flashy costumes and wealth were the least of her concerns. She genuinely came to entertain people and show them that women are more than the clothes they wear. She didn't change clothes a single time, and, because of that, everyone was able to appreciate her talent more than the glitz and glam of her social status.
This is the kind of woman I want to be. The kind of woman who shows that girls can be just as good at anything that boys are. In the male-dominated genre of country music, not many women have been able to get more than a few singles out. But Lambert is by far an exception to this stereotype. Not only do I want to have this "I can do anything" mentality, but I want my future children to be able to see a celebrity that isn't as shallow and materialistic as the rest. I want younger girls to be able to see that they can be just as intimidating as boys, without letting go of their femininity.
From her "girls rule, boys drool" songs to her "I'm not so confident all the time" ballads, she shows that women can stand up for themselves but still have times when they feel less than their worth. In a few of her songs, she talks about her faith in Jesus but also sings about having a drink. She proves that you don't have to be fake to go through life. If only all women could be as comfortable with themselves as Miranda Lambert.
"A smile can get you far, but a smile and a gun can get you a lot further." — Miranda Lambert
