An EGOT is when someone wins an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award and is a title held by only 12 performers.
Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song last Tuesday. This nomination is his first Oscar nomination and puts him in line for this rare feat. Miranda would be the youngest person to earn this title at 37 years old.
Winning the Oscar might prove to be a challenge though because ‘How Far I’ll Go’ is nominated alongside two songs from La La Land. ‘City of Stars’ beat out Miranda’s song from Moana at the Golden Globes earlier this month.
Audrey Hepburn, Rita Moreno, Whoopi Goldberg, and Richard Rodgers are among the dozen who have an EGOT. Miranda would join an even small group of people, who have also won a Pulitzer prize. Only Richard Rodgers and Marvin Hamlisch have received all five awards.
Miranda has won a Grammy for the cast recordings of both “In The Heights” and “Hamilton.” He has won three Tony awards himself and his musicals have won many more. Lastly, his work on the music and lyrics for the 2013 Tony awards gave him an Emmy.
Miranda is currently living in London to help open Hamilton at Victoria Palace Theatre later this year. He is also set to star in the Mary Poppins sequel and produce songs for other films.
