11 Mini Heart Attacks All College Students Have

We all know that college life is never not stressful. However, some moments stand apart in being heart-stoppingly awful in the most simple but terrible way. In fact, most of the worst instances one experiences are those daily trips on the “struggle bus” that is just annoying enough to ruin a good mood. To those who feel me, my heart goes out to you. Each and every college kid knows what it’s like to have their lives plagued by these moments (and if you don’t, teach me your secrets of living). So without further ado, here’s a couple moments we all experience that bother us far more than they should.

1. Accidentally touching your leg, arm, any body part to the sketchy communal shower curtain:

You don't know what dangers lurk on those surfaces, and you sure as heck don't want to find out.

2. The first time you look in the mirror in the morning after a night out when you didn’t take off your mascara before going to bed:

Nothing scarier than those two huge black spots under your eyes that are nothing short of cringe-worthy.

3. The horrible moment after failing a test before you remember you teacher drops your lowest exam grade:

You know what? It really doesn't matter if you got an F on that math exam, as long as it's all A's on the rest of them.

4. When you get all the way to the dining hall, but forget your student ID in your room and can’t swipe in:

Two options: go back to get your ID, or eat out of a nearby dumpster out of sheer laziness.

5. When you accidentally drop your phone off your lofted bed at night and you swear you heard the sound of shattering glass:

No, this can't be happening. Maybe if I just lay here and ignore the problem, it'll go away.

6. Setting your alarm for 8 p.m. instead of 8 a.m. the day of a final:

If you get up now, you'll only be 30 minutes late. But the bed is so nice and warm...

7. Locking your keys inside your room while you shower, and then have to wait for campus safety in nothing but a towel:

Is there a hole nearby I can disappear into? No? Okay, I'll just wait here and hope not to be seen.

8. Walking into the wrong classroom and obnoxiously disrupting a class at least eight times during syllabus week:

The entire class turns to see the intrusion and the teacher glares and, suddenly, you know what a deer in headlights feels like.

9. Trying to log into Netflix and getting hit with the “too many screens in use” warning because your siblings are also binging on "Grey’s Anatomy":

What am I supposed to do now? Read? Study? I guess I'll go to bed early tonight.

10. Cautiously pouring questionable milk into your coffee after it’s been in your refrigerator for just a little too long:

Okay, this is pretty risky. It takes a whole five minutes to get to Starbucks, but this milk is really sketchy.

11. Realizing you only get four years of college and then you’re off to the real world:

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
