Anytime the world millennials is spoken, soon enough the world contribution follows. Our very existence is defined by what we have to contribute to this world and to this economy. When previous generations discuss u,s they talk about all the things that are dead to us. They say we have no manners, no sophistication, no understanding of communication, and no respect for privacy. Whether or not we are narcissistic and don't have manners is debatable, but what we do have is a disastrous economy and a graveyard of career choices. We didn't create those things, and yet, we are expected to know how to survive through them.
We get the terms lazy and entitled thrown at us every time our generation is analyzed and discussed. We're expected to have a game plan, ready and able to make something out of ourselves at the speed of light. Many of us did in fact have a game plan, we knew the majors we wanted and had our career goals set. That all changed once we saw many of our dream jobs now being referred to us as "dead." The work fields that we wanted to be in are now seen as hard to get into and positions are gone due to the job market collapsing. So as we entered college, we quickly declared majors with our fingers crossed behind our backs, hoping that everything will be okay. But some of us knew deep down that our future being okay is not guaranteed. Many of us began living as a full-time student and part time employees, exhausting ourselves out by trying accumulate enough money as a safety net. There is nothing lazy about that.
But yes, we millennials complain a lot. We complain about the state of the world because God-willing, we'll be living in it for a while. We complain because our future is in the hands of older people who have continuously made horrible discussions. We complain because older generations have watched these things happen and have done nothing. We are also entitled. We are entitled to a better future. We are entitled to better financial future, one where we don't die paying off college debts. We're also entitled to fail. We're not all going to be a Steve Job success story straight out of college. We're all not going to know what we want to do with our future 3 years into college. Our worth should not be held on how quickly we have our life together to "contribute to society." That doesn't mean were lazy, or not going anywhere. Not all who wander are lost.
