Millennials Upon Millennials

The perspective of millennials from a political science 1101 class.

-We are all entitled to our opinion.

Being at this college with our professor we are very encouraged to interact. For me I came in uninformed and would barely talk because of the fear of saying something idiotic. I had no background knowledge of government besides my elementary, middle, and common knowledge I obtained over the years. Slowly but surely I actually gained interest in government and interested more and more in the upcoming election. Gradually I started speaking up more and talking in class without fear because I became less ignorant and more educated.

-If your opinion is not a political opinion expected to be interrupted fast.

With this class being outspoken if you speak unintelligently either the professor will stop you before you make a fool of yourself or the girl on the front row will stop you before the professor even notices. On the other hand, do not worry she speaks so softly if she contradicts your opinion no one will notice.

-If you are a Hillary supporter, you try to zone out the guy that sits behind me at all expense.

Everyone has that one guy in class that never stops talking and this is him. He luckily has never said anything offensive so it does not bother me quite as much but just the fact that he is such an outspoken conservative but seems ill-informed slightly bothers me. I own up to my stupidity by trying to not make imbecile remarks.

-We are being taught this subject to be more informed political citizens.

Ultimately, our professors greatest concern is not whether we walk out of her class loving her or politics but that we better our society by being informed citizens. This is an excellent perspective for a professor of this subject. She knows most of us will not pursue this field but still wants us to be able to make informed political decisions because we can affect our nation.

-Does the election matter when it is basically a reality TV show?

This actually has been brought up a good bit in our discussions lately. The media is twisting this election to the extent that more people are interested in this election than most prior elections. We came up with the proposition that some civilians are simply interested just because of the fear they have for our upcoming world after the election. The fear resulting from the mass media causing complications.

-Should our generation vote?

Interesting enough a large percentage of our class agreed that they were scared that their own friends would be voting. They actually would rather them not vote. Millennials are dignified but afraid of their own generation. Kind of ironic right? What’s even worse is that our fellow friends, fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters are putting their lives on the line for our country to have a free nation and for our country to exercise those freedoms. If we encourage freedom, why not take advantage of it?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
