Big news articles all over the internet enjoy writing about why Millennials are killing so and so...such as the housing market, or even the sale of fancy dinner ingredients. Of course Millennials all over social media fight back with enough Twitter campaigns to create nihilistic memes in a heartbeat. The context of Millennials countering criticism of the biggest age group population focuses on the rhetoric "It's not our fault, we don't have money because of you old people!" Bantering would continue on as Baby Boomers accuse Millennials for ruining society while those young adults respond back, practically blaming older adults for being the cause of such discord.
However, as someone who accepts being called a Millennial, I don't feel the need to defend my peers just because we grew up in the same generation. As far as history can go, I'm not saying that Millennials are also at fault and in some cases they do have every right to be upset with the status of this world if it effects entire populations of people. Yet, I do think that this "Blame Game" to older people can be out of hand. You see, it doesn't seem right for Millennials to blame Baby Boomers for everything wrong in this world, since Generation X has been doing that for decades now. And even then...The Baby Boomers today still think that the previous generation before them has done plenty of wrong now! The main point is that older adults shouldn't feel offended when Millennials blame them for the economy or identity issues when they've done the same years ago. Yet I do think that Millennials should be held accountable for their own responsibilities.
As a Millennial, I do believe that we are very capable to reach towards are very own goals whether it's finishing school, or finding yourself with a practical career. Heck, people throughout decades are happy not going by the norm of productivity. Yet when we feel that a minor obstacle is in our way such as student loan debt, we shouldn't blame people who are either Baby Boomers or Generation X. It's the fact that we have the right to choose whether we go to school at all after graduation, or going into the workforce early and climbing your way to the top. Or even both, which is a possible feat for Millennials.
Overall, the blaming game among the different generations have been going on for thousands of innings. Honestly, most of us are tired of it when we just want to live our lives by our own choices. Not some news article giving away statistics to guilt Millennials, leading us to blame older adults. In fact, it's a good message to not be worried about set ages to achieve long-term goals, it's just that most people reach their goals in different ages, get over it.
