In a world full of hatred, cruelty, violence and casualties, you can't help but to be apprehensive when you merely walk outside. Sierah Joughin's death was 30 minutes from my house, making me fear to ever ride my bike alone again. The shooting of Christina Grimmie shook the world. All of the other catastrophes that have happened this summer alone have made the world fear of what is to come if they even go to the grocery store.
I don't want to wake up in the morning and fear that a man will come after me if I need to step away from a crowd for a split second. I don't want to go to my next concert with my friends and continue to search the venue to find signs of a shooting about to happen. It's not a world we should have to live in. It's not a world at all, it's hell.
Millennials, people have been demeaning us for years, telling us that we are too far advanced in our technology to even register to vote. But we have a voice, we have so many ways of stopping what is happening. Liberal or conservative, atheist or Catholic, we all know that what we see on TV is hard to turn away from, yet we sit there in utter shock without any consolation for others that are hurting. Get your community involved. Stand up for Sierah, make everyone more aware of what sort of justice needs to be done-- because we can all agree that what is going on should never go unnoticed or unheard. "Better to be safe than sorry" has been said for decades and should be said for decades to come.
Put aside Trump vs. Hillary for a second, put aside all of the social media that you read your news on and ask yourself: "what am I doing to stop the madness?"
It's our world, it's right under our feet, we have finally earned it, and this is definitely not how the rest of our lives should begin. You may be one voice, but each of those shot in the Orlando Nightclub Shooting only had one voice too, but if they were here today to witness the aftermath of the shooting, they may have just made their one voices turn into hundreds, thousands, millions. There's nothing but depressing incidents all over the news and mass media, but it can be changed.
Always be aware of your surroundings, carry a concealed weapon if it makes you feel safer (and if you are of age), do whatever you can to protect yourself. But while you're at it, find ways to help in your community and to pay back to all of the innocent lives lost in the past two months alone. No matter who you are and where you've been, it is possible to put a stop to the unnecessary.
