Why Millennials Should Absolutely Vote

If you plan on not voting: THINK AGAIN

The 2016 Presidential Election is around the corner and I hear too often that people are not voting at all. The two candidates for the 2016 election are very left or right winged and there is no moderate choice, which results in MANY citizens not voting. Most of the millennial population is moderate when it comes to politics, so I've been hearing from many of my friends that they are not voting at all. If you live in a swing state, it is very likely that not voting can result in the election of a president you don't necessarily like. And when that happens, you only have yourself to blame. As a millennial, it is important to vote because we pull a great weight in the electoral college. To all of you moderate millennials, here is why you should vote:

1. The United States is a democracy!

We declared our independence from Great Britain because having a monarchy wasn't to our pleasing. Let's take advantage of our right to vote BECAUSE WE CAN. Many people in other countries would die to have voting rights. Power comes in numbers, don't let the country be led by someone whom you dislike.

2. Voting is voicing your opinion

Saying that your not voting tells me you only think Trump and Clinton are running and you don't like either of them. THERE IS A 3RD PARTY. Vote for the Green Party if you have to. And if you don't vote for the Green Party you're telling me you don't care about the environment. Do something.

3. No one votes with college students in mind, or students at all for that matter

Everyone votes in favor of themselves, understandable. But we are the ones in massive college debt. We are the ones that took the SATs and went through the beginning stages of Common Core. Education is important, students are important. We are the ones building, creating, molding society into what it is today. We are the working class. We are a large portion of this country. We are outspoken. Don't give up on society now by not voting. We have many opinions, so voice yours and vote for the sake of this country, WE NEED YOU TO.

4. People died for OUR right to vote, don't be disrespectful

Those people knew what they were fighting for and why it was so important. Don't belittle the importance of voting by not voting. Just straight-up disrespectful to those of the past who fought for YOUR future.

5. More people watch the Superbowl than vote

Don't make America look stupid, thank you.

These are only 4 reasons but let's see the bigger picture here, and vote.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
