From Millennials: An Open Letter To Future Generations About The 2016 Presidential Election

Dear future generations,

When Donald Trump announced that he was running for president on June 16, 2015 no one of us took him seriously. We heard the name Trump and only associated him with the apprentice but never as the 45th President of the United States.

I cannot begin to explain to you how I felt waking up on November 9, 2016 and thinking about who America had chosen for their next president. I honestly do not believe I’ve ever felt such disbelief in my life. It seemed as if the past year had gone by so fast. America watched as the republican candidates dropped one by one until eventually, there was one left standing – Trump. We thought there was hope with Bernie Sanders, a man who spoke for the millennials all across the country but when the time came a Democratic presidential candidate to be chosen, America chose Hilary Clinton.

Hope was not entirely lost because while Clinton was no Sanders, she was still better than Trump. We were more accepting to possibility of having a female president but unfortunately the electoral vote did not agree. Now many people such as those of color and the LGBTQ community are scared for the future that lies ahead of us. There are many people who are telling us to “get over it” and that we just need to accept things the way they are but they are wrong.

Although the President-elect has been chosen, we do not accept him as our president. He is not who we chose as our president, if you look at the votes of millennials, most of us voted for Clinton. We were excited to have a woman as a president following the first African-American president and we tried our best, apparently, our best was not enough. Some decided to write it extremely stupid things in such as Sanders who as much as we wish could have been an acceptable write in, he was not. Over 15,000 people decided to write in Harambe, which was not funny in any way, and did not help Clinton to win at all. If anything, it aided Trump with the win in the end.

As we enjoy the final days of President Barack Obama and the official inauguration of Trump grows near we know that somehow we will get through this. We have read in history books about tough times the country has gone through and unfortunately we are about to live through one of them. Despite the hopelessness, distraught and anger some of us felt waking up the day after Trump was officially elected, we know that there are many people in this country who value our lives, and will never stop fighting for us.

We hope that you know that we did not elect this man as President and we will work hard to get through these next four years.

Sincerely,

The Millennials.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.

Ah, Ms. Chanandler Bong, or Chandler Bing as he is better known as. For 10 years, Chandler brought us many laughs, many tears, and, well, Matthew Perry's fame. He is, personally, my favorite character on "Friends" because he made me laugh more than any other character on the show and I felt like I could relate to him more than the other characters on the show. Anyway, here are 10 Chandler Bing quotes that anyone can relate to... or graduates can at least...
