Let's go by the textbook, if you are anywhere between the ages of 18-35 then congratulations, you're classified as a millennial. Now, duck and cover because those who aren't given the fate of being a millennial will probably hunt you down, (pitchforks and all) and chastise you.
Unfortunately, the crowd carrying the pitchforks are our very own. It's the "socially awkward" kid in ethics class who knows every answer because he actually reads the textbook and it's also the girl who scrolls Instagram during class and says, "uh.. I don't know"? to every question the professor asks; it's the girl sitting in the back who murmurs under her breath, "stupid".
In a society that's all about 'peace, love and good vibes'; we're pretty good at spreading the hate.
Millennials. Love them, hate them, love to be them, love to hate them. It's the war of all wars and it's so gruesome, gutless, ruthless and merciless, we might at well title it World War III.
If it's not race against race it's religion against religion
Body type against body type
Man vs Woman
and we all claim we're fighting for "equality, good vibes, peace on earth..." blah blah blah and we've seen much more of the contrary
I'm not trying to be insensitive or disrespectful. I genuinely believe our generation is fighting the hardest to obtain these good things and create a fair, peaceful society but we are forgetting the bigger picture. We are forgetting who we are and whose we are.
It's no surprise that our generation is deemed a lost cause and as if we don't get enough criticism from our elders, we're hating on each other.
Everything is a competition between us and everything we say, do or don't is an offense.
We honestly cannot deny the fact that our generation is fully of bullies and since we're on the topic of argument here's mine: We have to stop hating each other, our generation, our society, our circumstance, our opposition, our neighbor, our brother, our classmate, our teachers.
The hate has to stop.
We are not called to fight, we are not called to argue, we are not called to be divided, we are not called to compete.
We are called by God as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood.
It's been a couple weeks since I have made any biblical references in my articles, I feel it appropriate to go ahead and use one now and this verse always come to mind when I think about our generation. So here it goes, no one said it better than Peter himself, through the guiding of the Holy Spirit:
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."- 1 Peter 2:9
The sad reality is that our generation, while sharing much light... is leading others to darkness and the root cause of that, is due to the individual living IN darkness.
So, I believe as children of God and as His chosen generation, we must step out from among that darkness and begin to allow the light to enter our lives.
Instead of posting "He-said-she-said" videos ranting about how our generation is lazy, entitled, spoiled, uneducated, underpaid, incompetent, ill-mannered... let's instead celebrate each other.
Let's celebrate our victories and encourage and uplift each other through our defeats.
Our potential and ability knows no bounds because we are called, set apart, chosen by the God whose very nature is "beyond that what we could ask or think"(Eph 3:20) we are loved and called by the God who has no bounds.
When faced with hate and opposition from our peers, let us remember that we are changing the very face of society.
We are far more advanced, far more capable, at a higher advantage for success than any other generation before us. It's no wonder millennials are such a popular topic.
Yes, we've faced great opposition, yet we have so much potential.
Instead of competing against each other, let's join together for the greater good. That good starts with us.
Contrary to popular belief, we don't suck. Our generation doesn't suck.
Put the negativity aside, the world is waiting and watching what we're going to do... so let's do things right!
