Millennials. That is the term for my generation. But what usually comes after this term? If you ask many older folks, some words that might come to mind are probably: "entitled, lazy, narcissistic, unrealistic, selfish, etc." the list goes on and on.
It's true, every generation has experienced criticism from the previous ones. Yet, with the ever expedient movement of globalization and an a world where new technology and ways of doing things pop up every second, their is indeed, much that is different with our generation.
As a millennial, I think it's fair to say that some of the above criticisms are rooted in merit, yet to what extent is this one size fits all description of us true?
I recently read an article that claimed that millennials are getting less religious, to which it proudly proclaimed that our generation only sought meaning in materialistic items. That we somehow have one purpose in life: to get more and more.
Is there anything good that comes out of this God forsaken bunch?
What people fail to realize is that with all of our faults, millennials are also a generation of passion. A generation that wishes to see a better world and believes that we can get there. Sure, we need to work on how much time we spend on the phone or perhaps even work on posting less on social media, but a lot of us are concerned of the direction our country is going. Although our generation has many ideological beliefs and backgrounds (we are also more diverse), a lot of us believe in change.
Although of many religious and spiritual backgrounds, many of us believe their had to be more than life than the accumulation of materials and wealth. We are a generation of conviction. We refuse to live a lifestyle just to get by. We know there is more to life than that. And that is something everyone can learn from millennials.
