A professional word artist named Gary Turk recently released a video that has many people thinking. Turk is known worldwide for his hits in slam poetry via social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, and Youtube. In this specific video, he addresses the power of technology within society today and how it is affecting our ability to be social. He believes that Iphones, Ipads or other, new technological advances are playing a huge role in how millennials live their lives by making us become dependent on an object that is keeping us isolated and reclusive. He also stresses the importance social media and our obsession with it.
Unlike any other generation, this generation of millennials was exposed to the most technological advances, having an impact on its upbringing. We are the most self- centered generation and a good exhibit of this argument is a selfie, which shows an obsession with not only our phones but ourselves. Turk also talks about the use of social media and how the only way we can capture the moment we're living in, is by posting it or sharing it via social media.
This Millennial culture is known for being a culture of entitlement. Millennials have become fascinated with themselves making themselves and their happiness their main priority. Millennials attitudes of narcissism are only spreading to the younger generation. Articles talk about how the generation after us, Generation Z, will be affected by the way we act since our behaviors are extremely influential. Media can further prove my point on how self-centered millennials are and how this is bringing up a problem to younger generations.
