I recently decided to hop on the bandwagon and read "Milk and Honey" by Rupi Kaur. I had no idea just how much a book could have an impact on a reader. These poems are the words that you think but don't know how to say. It's no secret that girls in college go through many situations, good and bad, that spark many different feelings. "Milk and Honey" is the perfect book of poems to help a girl understand these situations and feelings.
"he only whispers i love you
as he slips his hands
down the waistband
of your pants
this is where you must
understand the difference
between want and need
you may want that boy
but you certainly
don't need him"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls falling in love
"i know i
should crumble
for better reasons
but have you seen
that boy
he brings
the sun to
its knees
every night"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls who want to be in love, but don't love themselves
"if you are not enough for yourself
you will never be enough
for someone else"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls stressing about graduating
"most importantly love
like it's the only thing you know how
at the end of the day all this
means nothing
this page
where you're sitting
your degree
your job
the money
nothing even matters
except love and human connection
who you loved
and how deeply you loved them
how you touched the people around you
and how much you gave them"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls that are falling apart
"if you were born with
the weakness to fall
you were born with
the strength to rise"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls wondering if he likes you
"don't mistake
salt for sugar
if he wants to
be with you
he will
it's that simple"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls going through a breakup
"when you are broken
and he has left you
do not question
whether you were
enough
the problem was
you were so enough
he was not able to carry it"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls trying to win him over
"you mustn't have to
make them want you
they must want you themselves"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls who don't feel appreciated
"i am a museum full of art
but you had your eyes shut"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls who can't let go
"the thing
worth holding on to
would not have let go"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls who are hurt
"i know it's hard
believe me
i know it feels like
tomorrow will never come
and today will be the most
difficult day to get through
but i swear you will get through
the hurt will pass
as it always does
if you give it time and
let it so let it
go
slowly
like a broken promise
let it go"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls who don't like what they see in the mirror
"accept yourself
as you were designed"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls who are making the best of their situation
"the world
gives you
so much pain
and here you are
making gold out of it
- there is nothing purer than that"
- Rupi Kaur
For the girls who are happy
"i have
what i have
and i am happy
i've lost
what i've lost
and i am
still
happy
- outlook"
- Rupi Kaur
To every girl
"we are all born
so beautiful
the greatest tragedy is
being convinced we are not"
- Rupi Kaur
