This Might Be A Love Letter To My Car

Hey everyone, meet Pearl.

Most of you already know her, but I wanted to share her story. I was driving a Grand Am, and I didn’t mind it, but it had some mechanical issues. I ended up selling it and bought a really crappy car so I could save up for a nicer one. Like, so crappy it was embarrassing. I knew that it would be worth it when I could buy something better. I eventually saved up enough to start looking. I found a car that I loved, but I wanted to be sure. It wasn’t even on the lot yet, so I thought I had plenty of time. While I was on my way to test drive it again, it got placed on the lot and was sold to someone else. I was devastated, but I just began my search again. I found few more sedans I was interested in, but nothing perfect. I was feeling defeated, but that’s when I saw Pearl. Jokingly, I asked for the keys.

It was so different than what I thought I wanted. It was a hamster car, a cereal box on wheels. We all just joked about it, and I didn't think I was seriously going to buy it. I took her home that night, and discovered that the speakers lit up, changed colors, and bumped with the music. She got pretty good gas mileage, and was big enough for my German Shepherd. I ended up buying her the next day.

I named her Pearl because she's square and gray, not unlike Pearl Krabs from Spongebob. Hopefully, you can see the resemblance.

So far, she's been absolutely amazing! She's gotten me from point A to B safely for two years. She's taken me on long road trips to the Oregon and California coast.

She's taken me up to the mountains, all over Montana and Idaho.

She's braved crazy Idaho weather. She definitely hates snow, but deals with it anyway.

She's dealt with more dog hair, muddy paws, and window nose kisses than I care to admit.

She's really seen a lot. One day, I know I'll have to give her up. She'll get old or my needs will change. She wasn't my first car, but she was the first one that I really loved.

Thanks Pearl, I love you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
