You Might Be Addicted to Vine If…

As a public relations major, I am expected to know everything possible about all forms of social media. Personally, this is quite a struggle because I don’t particularly use social media. I have never enjoyed sharing my life with strangers. However there is one form of social media that I have come to realize I might be addicted to, and that is Vine. I am not sure where my addiction started, perhaps it was one of the thousands of Vine compilations on YouTube or my newsfeed on Tumblr, I might never know. However I do know that now I am in love? More than likely because I have a naturally short attention span like most of my generation. What are the signs of my addiction?

First of all, I have watched every vine compilation since 2013. Every month. It has taken me a while to boast about this great achievement, but you too can spend around two days of your life just watching Vines. If you too have seen all of the compilations like I have then you might be addicted to vines.

Second, I often spend more then a bit of my free time at night when I should be asleep watching vines. I probably spend a bit too many of my nights scrolling through the comedy, pet and DIY sections of Vine.co. It is possible that if you spend time you should be asleep watching vines then you might be addicted to vine.

Third, (probably the only part that is positive about this addiction) you now know what is popular. For example, I was minding my own business enjoying a nice dairy frozen beverage at Sonic with a friend when all of the sudden I heard, “What are those?" At that point, it was not yet a popular trend anywhere except for Vine. But because I am addicted to Vine, I laughed and looked. Of course, no one else laughed but it was a bit too early. This was probably the surest indication that I might be addicted to Vine.

Fourth and final, if you can recognize Vine stars in movies and on TV then you probably have watched way too many Vines, and are definitely addicted.

So, if you often find yourself doing any of these things, then you more than likely are addicted and should probably go outside without your phone and reconnect with the cool real world. Or you know there is always the food section.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
