There is nothing like that special feeling of nostalgia when I would press play to the throwback playlist I made on Spotify. This throwback playlist, in particular, is called "middle school days." I love going back in time to the late 2000s and early 2010s where I will hear some songs that influenced me as a teen. Here is a list of 12 songs that take me back to my middle school days that are worth noting
Owl City, "Fireflies"
This single hit released in 2008 is a true throwback when it comes to music. This catchy tune talks about how lead singer Adam Young who would rather stay awake rather than asleep. Adam Young described the song as "a little song about bugs and not being able to fall asleep at night."
The Wanted, "Glad You Came"
This catchy pop tune, released in 2011, talks about how a man is happy how a special woman he has feelings for her was able to spend time with her. This song is a positive tune and the video includes the band doing a bunch of cool things together such as jumping off a clip into an ocean, going on a boat ride, and having a good time with each other.
The Lumineers, "Ho Hey"
Whenever I hear this song, I immediately think of my 8th-grade art class, and how my teacher would always play this song whenever we worked on our art. The song is so catchy and is a simple love song. It was released in 2012 and is a tune everyone must give it a try.
Coldplay, "Viva La Vida"
Coldplay is a true classic to the pop genre and has released many tunes that are well recognized. "Viva La Vida" is one of them and it was released in 2008. In the tune, there are biblical messages from the Christianity faith. One of the lyrics mention how they hear Jerusalem bells are ringing, and how St. Peter will call their name.
Calvin Harris, "Feel So Close"
Calvin Harris delivers excellent performance when performing this tune. His knowledge of electronic instruments is showcased in this tune. Filled with fun DJ mixes, and electronic instruments, this song is one to get down and have a good time.
Awolnation, "Sail"
"Sail" is a song that I still listen to in 2019. It is a good song to workout, and has tons of electronic mixes. Lead singer Bruno wrote Sail as a way to reflect how he was feeling down on his life. The lead chorus and title "Sail" serves as a metaphor of how his life was an ocean.
Snoop Dog, Whiz Khalifa, and featuring Bruno Mars, "Young, Wild And Free"
What is so interesting about this song is the different collaboration of artists. From Bruno Mars to Snoop Dogg, and Wiz Khalifa, this one song sums up middle school years and early teen years. The chorus of "Young, Wild And Free" resembles having fun and enjoying the time.
LMFAO, "Party Rock Anthem"
This song that debuted in 2012 is one song to remember and was also played in my 7th-grade fall dance. It is a fun tune to dance and have fun. I can still remember how this song was in "Just Dance 3" and having a dance battle with friends and family.
OneRepublic, "Good Life"
OneRepublic can best be remembered for their pop tunes and is still a fun song to this day. It talks about living a good life and what that encompasses. It is a song everyone should listen to.
The Script, "For the First Time"
With popular tunes such as "Break Even," the Script can best be remembered their pop-rock music. It is a love song about how a couple was in an argument and them trying to cope with being frustrated with each other. This song is about how a man is trying to cope with his sadness by going back to the first time that they met.
 Vance Joy, "Riptide"
Australian singer Vance Joy can be best recognized with this Indie tune released in 2013. The song tells the story of a man who falls in love at first sight with a pretty girl.
Foster The People, "Pumped Up Kicks"
Despite this Indie tune having a soft melody, Foster The People ironically has a character named Robert who found a shotgun in his dads closet and he will be planning a shooting spree. Surprisingly, this song has a soft melody despite what the song is about. The song has good bass and a tune that is ironic.
