Middle School Days

A trip down memory lane.

Middle School: the three most awkward years of your entire life. You're no longer "babies" but you're not quite adults yet. You endure pointless drama, obsess over the hottest trends, and have your "first heartbreak." If you're a member of the "Razr/En-v generation," you'll remember this so well—here are 10 things everyone was guilty of in middle school.

1. Recording your favorite song on the radio for your ring tone

Don't lie and say you never did this! I clearly remember spending at least 15 minutes recording a Jonas Brothers or a Taylor Swift song to make sure it was perfect for my ringtone.

2. Picnick Photos

Who can forget the picnick-edited photos that you made for graduation, your best friends, your "boyfriend"/"girlfriend," etc. I used to be obsessed with picnick, and this was one of the many edited photos I made during middle school.

3. Ed Hardy

Remember when everyone wore Ed Hardy everything—t-shirts, hats, bags, shoes, etc.—and thought we were hot s***? It was not a good time for any of us.

4. En-v 2 and the Razr were the "must have" phones

If you didn't have an En-v 2 or a Razr, you weren't cool enough. Looking back on it, I must have gone through at least five En-v 2s due to technical problems.

5. The terrible layered/side bangs short haircut with braces

Ugh! It gets better. It gets better. My awkward stage was terrible, and I am so happy I got rid of this look 11 months after this photo was taken. I honestly don't know why I thought I was attractive and thought I rocked this look, but obviously, I was quite wrong.

6. The OG Selfies

The pre-iPhone selfies. I don't know why we didn't ask someone else to take the picture for us, but hey, it was cool.

7. Middle School Dances

This were the best nights EVER! At my middle school, we had one once a month on a Friday night, and my friends and I would then sleep over at one of each other's houses. Good times.

8. Matching Outfits with your Friends

Whenever you and your friends went to the mall over the weekend, you would buy the same exact shirt in different colors and wear them to school that Monday.

9. The Secret Handshakes

You and your besties always did your secret handshake whenever you saw each other at school

10. Passing Notes in Class

You would try to pass notes to your friends in class without the teacher catching you, but you most likely always got caught.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
