Middle School. Dreaded Middle School. It is so painfully awkward looking back on it. But it is a right of passage, a time to explore who you were meant to be, to make new friends, and to get prepared for the even more dreaded -high school.

1. When there's drama EVERYWHERE

Every school has its fair share of drama, but for some reason the drama seems to be abundant in middle schools. It's just that age. You can't seem to trust anyone, everyone is everyone else's best friend, and no one is happy, unless there's something juicy coming from recess.

2. Physical Education classes were a nightmare

Anyone else remember the dreaded president's challenge? Having to stretch and touch your toes, having to run a mile. What a nightmare!

3. That look of confusion when you had no idea what the teacher was talking about

God forbid you show any weakness and actually ask for help. Some teachers are great and will come early to help you out, but others make you feel pretty dumb if you ever have any questions.

4. When the teacher is helping the student next to you

I mean really, could these aisles be any narrower? You'd think they would have perfected some sort of "bend" technique.

5. When everyone seems to get recognized on awards day

Seriously, they will come up with any award to avoid anyone feeling left out. Consolation prizes, that's what they call them, but all they're good for is building up an entitled society

6. When the school adds a new sweater to the dress code

Because who wouldn't want to wear an itchy sweater in your bright school colors? It's the most uncomfortable fashion choice ever... and my middle school color was orange.

7. Having to scarf down your lunch to actually have time for recess

Is 45 minutes honestly long enough for anyone to eat, use the restroom, and have a recess? No. No it is not.

8. Being stuck with after school suspension

What ever happened to writing the mission statement over and over? Sure, my hands would cramp, but it totally beats mopping.

9. Finally getting to enjoy "Big Recess"

Because the field beats the quad any day. So much space, so much open air, and swing sets!

10. When the school thought it was a good idea to implement art class

I'd much rather spend my 50 minutes learning about polynomials than being forced to express my creativity. Art should be an optional elective. Not everyone was blessed with the creative gene

11. When it was a rainy day and the teacher brought the TV into the Classroom

Bones is educational, right? Or that silly little animated science guy with the robotic dog. Anyone else remember that show?

12. When it was your birthday and you had to invite the whole class

You had to invite the entire class in order to hand out invitations at school. People who you've never even talked to show up.

Middle school can be scary. It's new and awkward and a phase that nobody wants to relive. Looking back, it had its perks. It was a time of growth and development that (hopefully) prepared us all for high school.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
