It's winter break. You've been looking forward to finally receiving some time off, and now you're... BORED. Ugh. What? You and me both. Hopefully, you caught some extra Z's after a grueling semester, so now it's time to use this break to make some memories. Michigan is home to cities that provide stunning attractions and natural land that is beautiful even in *gasp* the winter. What's stopping you? Take a minute today, plan a little staycation, and make it happen! Here are attractions in Michigan that will make your winter break just a little more cheery.

1. Munising, Michigan: Home of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Grab some snowshoes and trek along the lakeshore in Michigan's UP! My friend and I had taken the trip a couple winters ago, and I still think back on this trip as one of my all-time faves. The hike keeps you warm and the sites have you in awe. The beauty here is endless! Definitely a trip you'll want to plan, but this is one I promise will stick with you for a lifetime.

2. Coffee + Igloo???

Grab a cup of jo at Outside Coffee in GR, MI. This adorable little coffee shop will give you those winter vibes you've been searching for. Igloos are heated, dogs are welcome, and they provide vegan and gluten-free options. Could it get any cuter? Located on Wealthy St. in Grand Rapids, it's surrounded by charming shops and to-die-for restaurants. You won't be disappointed.

3. Family fun at the Detroit Zoo 'Wild Lights'

The Detroit Zoo has done a light show for the past few years and has attracted immense amounts of attention for their light exhibits. Walk through and admire the lights with your friends, family, or S.O. and witness the beauty of winter under the night lights.

4. Because you're still a kid on the inside

Go tubing in the snow! This never gets old. Tubing is a super fun winter activity to do with friends when you just need a good laugh. Grayling, MI has Hanson Hills Recreation Area where you can go slipping and sliding for pretty cheap rates.

5. Get some blades under your feet

Let's go ice skating outdoors! This might be my all-time favorite. Ice-skating rinks are everywhere, so the commute is minimal! Usually costing around $2-3, you can save all that money you just spent on holiday gifts. Plus, unless you're all pros, you and your friends will fall every five seconds and have a hard time getting up because of your large fit of laughter. You'll have a fun afternoon, for sure. Pure Michigan provided an article of 11 great ice skating rinks in Michigan, so now is your chance to find one close by and enjoy!

6. Build some skill in the snow

Go skiing or snowboarding! Skiing is the most thrilling and exciting part of winter to me. However, snowboarding is high up on my bucket list. Never tried either? DO IT. It may turn you into an adrenaline junky, but it is a fun, unique hobby to have and a great skill to continuously build. Drive up north and you'll run into some of the best hills, including my favorite Nub's Nob. They have hills for my newbies, experts and all of you in-betweeners.

What I'm trying to get across is this... whether you love or hate Michigan winters, make the most of them. We live in a beautiful state and you have a little extra time on your hands, so go on and make some memories. You can stay inside and cozy up for the rest of your life! While you're able to, take advantage of what Michigan has to offer. Breathe in beauty, breathe out rejuvenation. Wrap up this year with a bow... now go have some fun!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
