GRAND RAPIDS, MI--- A man was actually found leaving his home for the first time since early November this past Tuesday afternoon, as weather temperatures skyrocketed past fifty degrees.
Gary Williams, a resident of Grand Rapids for 30 years, described the moment that he decided to leave, “It was absolutely magical. For the first time in, I don’t even know how long, I woke up and it just wasn’t cold.”
Along with the rest of the population of west Michigan, Williams has not seen sunlight since about the first week of November, nor felt any air without its winter sting. Instead of braving the outdoors, Williams retreated to the familiar comfort of his home, sitting on his couch and guessing how much snow had accumulated every day by the amount that has fallen on his back deck.
“At first, you think, hey, it’s fun, it’s a good time,” Williams stated, “But then as time goes on you just get real tired of it all, and that’s when I decided to stay inside.”
When asked how Williams obtained food and water despite never exiting the house, he simply shrugged and mumbled something about “Uber Eats” and pizza delivery men. When asked any other questions about the logistics of his situation, he continued to mumble and say much of the same.
We caught up with Williams a week later to see how he was doing after the temperature shift. We were surprised to find that Williams has now taken to retreating to his home again, only this time until the spring rains stop. We asked for a statement through the front window of his house, to which we received no comment. We’ll be sure to check in on him again once the heat waves of summer start.
