Michelle Obama Does Not Want To Be President

As she said, "we cannot sit back and hope for the best" during this election season, and if Michelle is with her, so am I.

The Democratic National Convention has only been underway for one day, and there have already been some incredible speeches. The most notable speech from the first day, July 25th, was made by our #FLOTUS, (First Lady of the United States), Michelle Obama, and it was nothing short of poetic. So poetic, in fact, that she has sparked the interest of many and gained the support of even more. Some #FLOTUS fans went so far as to suggest Michelle run for President after listening to her incredibly moving words.

Obama's thoughts focused primarily on the future of America's children, and support for the candidate she feels is best suited to positively shape the young minds who will grow and learn during this presidency. Not surprisingly, she named Hillary Clinton as this person. Michelle used her speech to praise Hillary as a public servant, to notice and bring to light all of the hard work she has put in throughout her career. She never once talked about dreams of being the president herself, and this is why I fear some #FLOTUS fans are missing the point.

There is no doubt that Michelle Obama acted with the utmost grace and class during her time as the First Lady. She is poised and intelligent, and sees her job as the First Lady as an opportunity to be the best role model for children who write reports on her and her husband for school. All of these qualities make her great, but they do not make her a presidential candidate. Instead of promoting herself or talking up President Obama, she endorsed Clinton by reminding everyone of Hillary Clinton's qualifications and service to the country.

During her speech, she also tells Democrats to not "be tired or frustrated or cynical." Michelle calls the whole party to action, because she wants someone who knows that America is already great, and that wars cannot be won in 140 characters or less. She wants Clinton. Her message is clear, so I don't really understand those who support the left wing calling for their party to write Michelle in on their ballots in November. Here's the thing... Not voting for Hillary only splits the Democrat party at this point. It's unlikely that conservative voters will consider voting for a third party or writing in a candidate, so splitting this vote is very dangerous to the health of our country. Splitting half the vote by writing in Michelle or voting third party will only leave us with a very orange man with a love of ill fitting trucker hats in office. If you listened to Michelle Obama's speech, and feel the best response is to write her name on your ballot in November, I urge you to listen again. As she said, "we cannot sit back and hope for the best" during this election season, and if Michelle is with her, so am I.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
