Michelle: Hail To The Woman

Michelle: Hail To The Woman

Throughout the past two weeks, the Democratic and Republican conventions have unleashed the good, the bad and the absolute ugly. We have seen the possible first lady, Melania Trump, rip off our current first lady, Michelle Obama's speech and we have also seen Michelle herself throw shade in the most dignified manner ever reached by a first lady or any lady of that matter. After witnessing Michelle's speech for the convention, I have had a question lingering around my mind: Could Michelle possibly be president one day?

Many I'm sure have asked this questioned, but have possibly dismissed this as ludicrous, but why is it so ludicrous? She has seen up close the running of a country thanks to her husband and has experienced herself the running and pushing of laws to help better the U.S. thanks to her advocacy of healthier school lunches. She may not be the first female president or the first female to run for presidency, but she may be the guiding light that helps open the eyes of many, many people.

Michelle has also been applauded for her gracefulness in shutting down stupidity and throwing shade where it's needed. Unlike some presidential runners, running her mouth like a chicken with its head cut off is not her forte. As if a reincarnation of Eleanor Roosevelt, her witty comebacks, comments and sayings can leave us all in tears, laughter and wisdom all in the same context. Even through her fashion, she graces us with her respect and dignity and permits us to lavish within her words, hearing the sagacity that some have yet to discover.

Being a mother also helps because with this job comes learned patience, positive attitude and a will, bigger than any other, to join all countries together in a truce and live in peace. Every mother and yes, every father, understands the importance of "keeping the peace" within the family. So how could we use this analogy as a means of "keeping the peace" between countries? Easy: find a mother. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. I'll put it like this, a woman will protect her child, Michelle = Mom, U.S. = Child. Mom + Child = Protective. I think it's time to bring out a mama bear for this country!

When it comes down to it all, I thinks it's safe to say that it's time we elect a woman. We need a switch up, a fresh new face if you will. We need to stop taking foot steps back and learn to walk forward on the catwalk of life and politics. In the end, I leave you with this: never send a man to do a woman's job.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
