Singer and songwriter Michael Seyer performed at The Lunchbox in Phoenix, Arizona, Wednesday. The performance was his sixth stop on the Before Nostalgia tour where Seyer performed a lot of his music from his new EP release called, "Nostalgia."
Seyer is known for his nostalgic music and fits well into the alternative genre as his guitar skills are well advanced. He has a way of using the melody and instruments to best tell his message through his lyrics. When I first approached Michael he seemed shy and not much of a performer until I saw him on stage wailing on the guitar and singing with such purpose and smooth harmony.
Michael was originally born in the Philippines but spent most of his life in Culver City, CA where he would come from a family that was involved in music. Although Seyer didn't get help from his parents when he learned how to play his favorite instrument, the guitar. At just ten-years-old, Michael taught himself how to play and he has been trying to make a career out of it since then.
The performance came at a time where Michael Seyer is starting to gain popularity as this was his first tour where he was the main act. The analytics speak for themselves as his hit song " Lucky Love" has over 1.5 million views on Youtube and he has gotten recognized by some of the great alternative musicians such as Bane's World where Seyer was the opening act to Bane's tour in 2018.
Michael's new music is different than his recent album Bad Bonez as the songs are funky and have an upbeat vibe to them compared to a lot of sad songs such as Father on the Bad Bonez album. Nostalgia has a lot of jazz included as well with Jason Ayala showing off his tenor saxophone skills in his solos across some of the songs on the EP. The new songs are great to listen to whenever you feel like de-stressing and taking some time to relax as the subtle tone of Seyer's voice takes you to a feeling of Nostalgia.
"I created a lot of love songs with chill instrumentals for people to relate to," said Seyer.
The popularity has grown as it was a sold-out show at The Lunchbox where people were lined up to see him live. With his new EP, Seyer is looking to gain attention and hopefully become a respected musician.
"I still feel like I have a ways to go but I am on the right track with continually dropping new music," said Seyer.
I would rate his performance an 8/10 because he performed tons of solos on his guitar and his voice sound just as good live as it does in the studio so you know he can sing for real.
