Five Lessons "One Tree Hill" Taught Us

We've all done it. Cried, laughed, rejoiced, and suffered with the characters of perhaps one of the most drama-filled shows ever to grace every teenagers TV (or computer screen) for most of the 2000s. One Tree Hill was Saved By the Bell for the kids of the 2000's. It was the backdrop of the trials and tribulations of adolescence for an entire generation. Tree Hill, its high school, and students provided a mirror to teens everywhere for navigating life lessons, boys, heartbreak, divorce, addiction, and just about every dramatic event that could ever possibly occur in ones life. So here's to you, One Tree Hill, and the life lessons we never would have learned without you.

1. Life moves fast and you need to appreciate all of it.

“One day you're seventeen & planning for someday. And then quietly, without you ever really noticing, someday is today and then someday is yesterday and this is your life."

"Live life for the moment because everything else is uncertain. Take advantage of what's right in front of you. That's all you got"

"It's funny how our past frames us, how the person we used to be never lets loose of the person we are. Past failures and disappointment, even victories. They haunt us like ghosts or visit us like old friends"

2. We are all trying to leave our mark on the world.

“I want to draw something that means something to someone. You know, I want to draw blind faith or a fading summer or just a moment of clarity. It's like when you go and you see a really great band live for the first time, you know, and nobody's saying it but everybody's thinking it: “We have something to believe in again." I want to draw that feeling. But I can't. And if I can't be great at it then I don't want to ruin it. It's too important to me"

“Have you ever wondered what marks our time here? If one life can really make an impact on the world… or if the choices we make matter? I believe they do. And I believe that one man can change many lives. For better… or worse"

“Make a wish" “Do you have it?" “Good, Now believe in it with all your heart"

3. Friendship is what is important.

“Hey, when I think of everyone else out there in the world that goes through their life alone, and then I think of all the wonderful, wonderful years I got to spend with my beautiful best friend and I kinda feel sorry for everyone else"

4. Sometimes all you can do is just get through the day—and that's okay.

“Life kicks you around sometimes, it scares you and it beats you up, but there's a day when you realize that you're not just a survivor. You're a warrior. You're tougher than anything life throws your way"

“You know what? Tragedies happen. What are you going to do? Give up? Quit? No. I realize now that when your heart breaks you have to fight like hell to make sure you're still alive. Because you are. And that pain you feel? That's life. The confusion and fear, that's there to remind you that somewhere out there is something out there that is better. And that something is worth fighting for"

“And when you find yourself lost in the darkness and despair, remember it's only in the black of night that you see the stars"

5. At the end of the day, all you really need is love.

“When life comes rushing at you out of the darkness who will you choose to face it with? Will it be someone you trust? Will they be wise? And will their love for you help them to guide you to the light, or will they lose their way in the darkness? Will they make noble choices? Or will that person be untested, someone new? Life comes rushing at you from out of the darkness. When it does, is there someone in your life you can count on – someone who will watch over you when you stumble and fall, and in that moment, give you the strength to face your fears alone?"

“At this moment there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world. Some are running scared. Some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day. Others are just now facing the truth. Some are evil men, at war with good. And some are good, struggling with evil. Six billion people in the world. Six billion souls. And sometimes — all you need is one"

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
