The 20 things you must do before you graduate.

The Miami University Students’ Bucket List

As a student of the best place on Earth, you owe it to yourself to make the most of your time in Ox. When will you have the opportunities or time that you have now? College is about you. This is the time to do what you want to do when you want to do it. Let’s begin.

1. Do homework or go on a date at Kofenya.

The key to success at Kof is their wraps. I recommend the veggie one.

2. Go on a bar crawl with your friends senior year.

Even if you don’t complete the long list all in one night, try to it to every bar at some point.

3. Go to a hockey game.

No one dislikes Miami sporting events more than Miami students, but hockey games are a sight to see.

4. Explore the Formal Gardens.

This is one of the most beautiful parts of Miami's campus. Make sure you check it out before graduation!

5. Go to Karaoke Night on Saturday at J. W. Dink's Saloon in Hamilton.

Make sure you have a designated driver or take an Uber there.

6. Eat at Pulley in Armstrong late night.

You know what I’m sayin’.

7. Hike or camp at Hueston Woods and explore the Bluffs.

If you don’t know where the Bluffs are, ask your friends.

8. Go to the Oxford Farmers’ Market in Uptown Park on Saturday mornings.

Especially in a small college town like Oxford, buying locally is imperative to helping local businesses stay afloat.

9. Study or volunteer abroad.

Approximately 38 percent of Miami students go abroad during their college career, earning Miami its position as the second-ranked college nationally for its percentage of students who go abroad. Don’t miss out on this transformative experience. If you can’t go for an entire semester, try to go over J-term or summer. There are scholarships you can apply for because one of the students’ main concerns about going abroad is obviously the cost.

10. Attend at least one concert a year.

Miami may not be a hub for great concerts outside the realm of Country music, but we live close enough to Cincinnati and Columbus— both have great selections of concerts to choose from.

11. Go on Spring Break with your friends.

Whether it’s to Florida or out of the country, you’re sure to make some memories. (Check out the Cincinnati-born app Roadtrippers for some fun ideas for places to stop along the way.)

12. Take a class for fun.

This could be modern dance, sewing, ceramics, photography, philosophy or creative writing.

13. Jump in the Shriver fountains.

This is a classic Miami tradition. The weather is getting nicer, so you'll be able to check this off before the end of the semester if you haven't already.

14. Get a beer tower at Skipper’s.

On a nice afternoon, rally some friends to sit on the front patio of Skips for some good times.

15. Do 2 to 2 at New Bar.

This consists of staying at New Bar from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. You can’t leave. Have your friends bring you food, and drink Redskins and pitchers of Natty to your heart's desire.

16. Wake up and go Uptown before 9 a.m.

I promise you, High Street is even more beautiful than you’ve ever seen it at this time. Its quiet and slow and you can feel that Oxford actually is a small town in a way you don't on the weekends.

17. Go out each night of the week to see which is your favorite.

Is it Karaoke Night, ‘90s Night, Tini Tuesday, Trivia Night, Country Night, Wine Night or Pitchers?

18. Visit Spring Street Treats.

Often overlooked, Spring Street Treats is a quaint local business that serves a wide variety of foods, from hot pretzels to ice cream

19. Visit another college.

University of Cincinnati, Ohio University and Ohio State University are all close enough for a weekend trip. Although the schools might not compare Miami, getting a feel for the unique traditions at other campuses is an important part of college. Plus, your friends will be more likely to visit you at Miami if you visit them.

20. Go to brunch at Patterson’s.

It’s perfect for when your family or friends come to visit. Try to get there early though because it fills up pretty quickly after 11 a.m.

Create your own bucket list with personalized ideas. Hang it on your wall and cross items off as you complete them.

In the midst of all these things, make sure you take pictures to remember your experiences with, but don’t let your desire for good pictures overrule living in the moment.

On a more sentimental note, write a letter to yourself at the end of each year with your favorite memories and open it senior year or a few years after college. Write journal entries whenever you can. Don’t forget to dance. Be present and appreciate the little moments.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.

There is always a time in the semester when you have about three papers, four tests, five assignments and two projects due within the same time period. Isn't that just the best?

It's almost as if the professors all plot against you just to make college even more stressful than it already is. No matter how many people try to make you feel better, no one ever compares to your mom. Moms always know exactly what to say.
