Okay, people, I’m going to go full-on nerd for one article. A friend introduced me to the Meyers Briggs Personality Types a couple months ago and ever since then I have been obsessed. In classes, I have been forced to take personality test after personality test but was never truly intrigued until I took this one. Meyers Briggs separates people into sixteen different personality types based on 4 different categories. You are either introverted or extroverted, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, judging or perceiving. See what you are.
My poor roommates are probably tired of me geeking out over this, but I made almost all of them take the test. Sure enough, it was so accurate. Not only does it explain how people are, it also explains why my friends and I act a certain way. After realizing I was a “Campaigner” or an “ ENFP,” I learned a lot about myself and how I look at the world.
In my personal opinion, personality tests can only be so accurate. Every single one of us is made different and have small details that make us stand out from others. Many personality tests clump you into a very small number of groups and just assume that every human being is in one. This, I disagree with, because there is no way to tell if everyone matches all the aspects.
With this being considered, I was surprised by how accurate the Meyers Briggs personality test was. My guess is this test is about 75%-85% accurate. With people being so contrasting, that is a hard number to reach.
Meyers Briggs also made me appreciate my personality. They provide a whole page of overview, strengths and weaknesses, friendships, romantic relationships, future careers, workplace habits, and even their prediction of what I will be like when I’m a parent later in life. It all blew my mind.
“Charming, independent, energetic, and compassionate, the 7% of the population that they comprise can certainly be felt in any crowd” is how my personality is described. After continuing to read, everything seemed to be spot on. There is nothing I find more fascinating than learning about yourself, and this has taught me a lot about who I am.
I understand that some people don’t think the Meyer’s Briggs Test is accurate, and that is okay. I’m simply writing this article because I’m fascinated and think it’s fun to read and learn about yourself. If you prefer a different personality test, or none at all, that is fine with me.
Appreciating yourself and understanding who you are is, in my opinion, very important to one’s success. Keep in mind, though, that no personality test can accurately definite exactly who you are. Everyone is different in some way. You are not defined by what a test says about you. These things are just supposed to be enjoyable, so have fun with it.
So, I invite you to be a complete nerd with me, and learn about your personality type. Then maybe I can talk to you about it, so I can let my poor roommates off the hook.
