Everything You See On The Metro North Railroad

Everything You See On The Metro North Railroad

Constantly in New York with friends, seeing shows, going to random dance workshops or just going to therapeautically walk around New York City I have become quite the queen of taking the Metro North Railroad train.

I live about twenty minutes from a station myself, and have recently gotten into the habit of going into the city on my own and just taking the time to explore.

As an artist who aspires to someday live in New York, there is nothing more that I love than submerging myself in the urban jungle madness. The people, places, smells and fashion excite me to no end.

But of course, a journey into New York is not complete without a ride on the Metro North train. And that is a production of it’s own. Whether it be on solo rides into Manhattan or school trips, I have always come across a lot of interesting characters on my travels into New York.

Here are my top four worth sharing – I could go on for days with this topic but these are THE most worthwhile.

1. The Bro Night/Post Game Crowd I’ve seen my fair share of homies coming back from a Yankee Game, or a Knicks game.

They are usually a group of 10 or more total bro like guys. Jerseys, sometimes face paint, and they are all rowdy from whichever sporting event they just came from. Another good group to stick near when you walk back to your car at 1 in the morning.

2. The Gossipy Moms Taking Their Family For a Day of Fun.

My last time on the train with my family to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art I sat directly across from a group of women who were complaining about their sisters and husbands the entirety of the hour and a half train ride. Their piercing nasal voices were most definitely a nice alarm clock that morning for my 9 a.m. train.

3. The artists/musicians/dancers/actors/singers.

Of course my favorite category. Mi Gente! My people! Gotta love seeing the people come on with the big upright bass, sketch pads, and of course the wackiest clothes and outside gear on. If you see a Capezio bag or a cross body duffel, you better believe that is an actor going to a call or an audition.

4. Frequent City Goers

The individuals that sit with their iPhone and Starbucks, usually a tote in hand with block like glasses and tend to roll their eyes at anyone who looks like a tourist.

Note: Businesswomen and men in full on suits and sneakers can also be found in this category.

The city is a hot bed of inspiration for me, and it is such an extraordinary blessing to be able to go into New York whenever I have the $28 to afford it.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
