I Met My Boyfriend For The First Time

After seven months, I finally met my boyfriend in person.

On March 2, 2019, I went on my first flight by myself. This was a BIG trip due to the fact that I wasn't going just anywhere, but I was going to meet my boyfriend of seven months for the first time. Well, the first time in person.

Of course, I was nervous, but it went smoothly. We were able to find each other immediately, so there wasn't any confusion there. We got my bag from the luggage claim and headed out to his car so that we could get to his house, which was where I was staying for the entirety of my break.

When we got there, we basically just focused on getting my stuff in the room I was staying in. I met his mother, who was extremely kind to me and then got used to where everything was in the house. It sounds kind of creepy, but when you're somewhere for the first time, it's a process that you have to go through.

Eventually, his sister got to the house and took us out to eat. It was pretty great spending time with them, as I got to know his sister more than I had previously. His entire family is sweet, and it was nice to be able to talk to them more. After we left, we went to her apartment so that she could show me everything.

And, well, that was basically the end of the first day that I was there. Throughout the week, I met his friends from college and he took me exploring. Turns out there are a lot of different stores in New York than there are in Indiana, but the setup of where he lives is really similar to a town here that my parents take my brother and me to constantly. It was comfortable to be there, and I wasn't afraid that I was going to get lost or anything since I was with him. It was really nice.

Of course, being with your boyfriend/girlfriend in person means you have to go on a date somewhere. The first one we went on, we went and spent time at the mall by his place. We got some shopping done that he had to get done, then we basically just wandered around until we got bored and went back to his place.

We did end up going on a second date the night before I left, and that just happened to be out to eat. It was nice to just be able to spend that last night with him, and it was honestly just a really nice time altogether. Of course, it was a Saturday night, and we went to a restaurant that just so happens to be pretty busy on the weekends, but it was still nice. It took a while to get through everything, but we were able to just enjoy the time that we had with the time that we had to spare. That might have actually been one of the best nights that I spent with him.

Overall, I really enjoyed the time I spent with him. I think that was the best spring break that I've ever had, and I'm glad that I was able to spend it in New York with him. The necklace that I'm wearing in the second picture was actually something that he had picked up for me when I was there. I've worn it every day since I got it, and I don't plan on changing that unless something happens to it—or I get a new one.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
