A Message To The Sensitive Ones Like Me

Our emotions should be celebrated, not hidden away.

A Message To The Sensitive Ones Like Me
Naomi August

You’ve been called a number of things: a dreamer, a hopeless romantic -- maybe you’ve even been called naïve or too idealistic. You can call us a lot of things, but do not call us weak. Because honestly, being like us is really the best way to be.

When people like us fall in love, we really fall. Sometimes it’s into feelings of bliss, and other times it’s flat on our faces. But damn, it’s an adventure to love and be loved by us. Passion is a word that resonates with us and when we find something that can capture our attention, we put our whole being into understanding it. If you're important to us, we make it our mission to prove it to you.

We give our all to the people we love and ask for the same in return. And time after time, we are disappointed when our loved ones can’t live up to our high standards. People like us have our hearts broken more often and may seem weak, but in reality, we are the strongest. Instead of giving up, we keep going, undeterred on our quests to find the real love we’ve been searching for.

People like us forgive easier because we know that love is stronger and more important than holding grudges. Everyone deserves a second chance and we are always giving them, even if it may seem illogical to others. Loyalty is more than a word for people like us, it’s a way of life. When we love you, we will always love you. Even if you hurt us, we will always care for you at least a little bit.

Sensitive people like us are constantly in tune with our emotions and this alone makes life much more interesting for us. Because nothing is ever simple, we see special meaning in everything. We are human sponges, soaking up every last drop of detail and emotion. People like us feel things deeper than others. We are the ones who are constantly overwhelmed by emotions. The ones who allow ourselves to become emotional over a beautiful song or become excited when our favorite movie character finally achieves their goal. In a world that’s constantly telling us otherwise, we keep allowing ourselves to express our emotions, even if it may be painful. And to me, that’s beautiful. Emotion is what makes life worth living. Without sensitive people bravely expressing themselves, we wouldn’t have Adele’s gorgeous and poignant music or the rollercoaster of profound emotions depicted in Shakespeare’s sonnets. There’s no reason we should have to put up a front to others who may disapprove of our feelings. In fact, our emotions should be celebrated for how unique and beautiful they are.

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

You know that all of these things apply to you. You'll just never tell.

CSU

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
