A Message To All The Musicians... Please Read!

I am going to be really honest now. All my life, I wanted to be a musician and study in a music college. And my wish came true. But as soon as I entered into this music world, from K.M to ICOM and now even at Berklee, I have noticed something. I started realising that there is so much competition.

I have met a lot of musicians who are so talented, and I always used to wonder whether I would reach that level. At times I used to wonder whether I am even at the right place. Soon we all musicians start having feelings of jealousy and that gets us the feeling of hate, and we start thinking of overthrowing that person. We start competing.

I used to feel jealous of other musicians too, and at times wished of overthrowing them too. Until I realized that it gives us a negative impact. These feelings of jealousy is making us turn into something we are not. To tell the truth, musicians are forgetting one of the main things.

All musicians have one goal, they all have the same dream: to become a musician. Why are people forgetting that? Why are we so focused on overthrowing another musician when we all have the same dream? Musicians are forgetting that the fact we have a similar dream is giving us a huge chance for us all to make good friends. Musicians have a chance to share their dreams and their talent with one another. But sadly, I am seeing musicians making more enemies than friends.

Here's a message I want to give all the musicians:- Yes in life you will meet a lot of people who are talented and as good as you are, but don't let that make you feel inferior. Please try your best, work hard! But don't let that get to you! Don't let the feelings of jealousy and competition get to you and turn into a negative person! Life is giving an opportunity to meet people as well as to spread love and to unite all musicians! Sadly you are missing that! Wouldn't it be nice to know someone who has the same dream as yours? Then please stop this negativity! Please realise that life is giving you a chance to mingle with people who have similar dreams! Mainly, don't let those negative feelings let you forget your dream of being a musician!

After realizing all these, I stopped feeling jealous! I stopped thinking of competition! I am only focusing on working hard to become a good musician! I also made friends genuinely, without thinking that they are as talented and as good as me, and with the feeling that we are musicians who have a similar dream! And you know what, it felt really good!

I know a lot of people would say that this is how the industry is and it will never change! But I believe we can change this! We can try and change these feelings of competition!
Let's do this!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
