A Thank You To My Parents

I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for you guys.

A Thank You To My Parents
Emily Lauzon

My parents are some of of the best people that I know. I'm so thankful for them because I know that without them, I would not be the person I am today. We all go through that phase where we think our parents are lame and that they don't understand us. What I've come to realize is that not only do my parents understand me, they know me better than anyone else. So thank you.

Thank you for always driving me to school, except for that one time you didn't which made me realize how grateful I was for all the times you were able to do so. I oftentimes forget how much you guys do for me.

Thank you for teaching me to laugh at myself and appreciate sarcasm. Without those two very important qualities I would not be who I am today. I can't imagine living a life without humor and a family dynamic full of bad jokes.

Thank you for showing me that my needs and opinions are important. Although it may be difficult to balance, you've shown me to help others while also putting myself first. Every single time I struggled with this, you've helped me see that it is important to know that I matter.

Thank you for dealing with my spontaneous mental breakdowns even when they range from something actually important to something completely ridiculous like Harry Styles cutting his hair (I was a mess okay).

Thank you for supporting my decisions regardless of the outcome. College isn't always easy but you've never hesitated to help and guide me as best as you can. Even though things are always changing, you always encourage me to embrace change even though I may not want to.

Thank you for showing me what it means to work hard. You've shown me that I can do so much more than I think I can as long as I put my mind to it. Although I may not always want to put in the work, I know that I will get so much more out of whatever I am doing. Yes, it is much easier to take the easy way out but you've shown me time and time again that it will mean so much more to me if I succeed due to hard work. And might I just say, and I don't say this often, you were right.

So thank you for everything. For always being there for me when I need you and for your constant support and love. Everyone always says that they've got the best parents out there but they're wrong; I do.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows.
