Last week Meryl Streep took her moment at the Golden Globes to make an impressive speech about future President Donald Trump. Of course her speech has gotten a lot of backlash from people. People are saying "hollywood needs to stay out of politics." I did not know your occupation declared whether or not you could speak out about politics. I did not know that because you are a celebrity you had no right to care about issues or who your President is. How dare she care. How dare she speak up and have an opinion. Shame on you.

Meryl Streep started her speech out explaining what Hollywood was. She stated that everyone was from all over the place. She explained that people came from all over the world and they ended up in Hollywood. She explained that their job is to come into the hearts of different types of people. She goes on to discuss the events where Donald Trump made fun of a disabled person and how wrong it was. She goes on to reach out to press and asks them to call out Trump. She wants the press to fight back honestly. She never directly says Trumps name. She ends the speech quoting Carrie Fisher "Take your broken heart and make it art".

Donald Trump was not pleased with the speech that took place at the Golden Globes. Trump responded to the speech via Twitter saying that Meryl Streep was an "overrated actress" and "she is a Hillary flunky who lost big". He also explains that the events of him making fun of a disabled person was not true and blamed the press for taking it out of context. It was a situation that probably should not have been responded to which proves her speech only right.

Meryl Streep is not the only celebrity to speak out about political issues. Clint Eastwood is a conservative who has spoken out many times about his views, Mel Gibson has no problem expressing his opinions, and many celebrities are activist who make their opinions known. It is not an uncommon thing for celebrities to speak out about issues going on in the world. I find it odd that people respond to them speaking out by saying "hollywood needs to stay out of politics". Celebrities are people too and are entitled to their opinions. The laws that get passed play a role in celebrities lives too therefore they have a right to care. They have a right to care and advocate because they live in this country. That is what makes our country so great we are allowed to have opinions and speak out about what we like and dislike. The truth is celebrities doing things like what Meryl Streep did makes people care and brings attention to things going on in the world.

Moral of the story, folks: Celebrities are people too and politics play a role in their lives just like they do us. No one should feel they have to be silenced. Like, Streep quoted "take your broken heart and make it art". She took her broken heart about this election and made it art. You as an American citizen have the right to disagree with her, which is awesome, but you should not belittle her because she does not have the same view points as yours.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
