Senior Year Spring 2020 Is All Virtual And It Has Made Me Appreciate College

As I got on my plane home from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on March 12 surrounded by 10 of my closest friends, the last thing on my mind was never returning home to school.

I never thought that was the end of such a memorable and amazing four years at Merrimack College. Spring break was the last big exciting moment of our college experience and we had no idea Covid-19 stood between us and our last semester. As we are now closing such a big chapter in our lives I would have never thought it would close this way. However, I am beyond thankful for everything in between.

Life is now so different. We are back in our childhood bedrooms, finishing our last semester in our parent's kitchen and learning virtually. It is nothing like we have ever imagined. We were supposed to spend every living second with our best friends before we graduated and went into the real world.

These last three months were supposed to be the BEST ever, distance was never in the plan. As seniors in college, we are robbed from so many memories. What is supposed to be the best time of our lives was completely taken away from us. Senior year spring semester is something that every senior looks forward to (if you're a college student or if you were a college student I'm sure you can relate ).

It is a time when the weather begins to change when the flowers begin to bloom and the community comes together to do lots of fun things. We had so much to look forward to during senior year spring and so many more memories to make. One being, spring weekend. Spring weekend is one of the most memorable parts of every single school year at Merrimack.

It's time for day drinks, parties, weddings and sports. It's a time that we all cherish close to our hearts at Merrimack. A day we all look forward to from the second we move in.

Although this unprecedented time has brought a lot of uncertainty to many. There is a lot to be thankful for. Merrimack College is home, it was a place that I met some of the greatest people in my life and a place that changed my life forever.

I could have never imagined a better place to spend my four years of college. The coronavirus has changed our daily lifestyles and has caused a damper on so many things and people around us but it is important to always reflect on the good things and the people you have in your life today.

Learning virtually is an experience and being able to zoom friends every night is an experience.

To every student in college, when they say it flies by it truly does. Cherish every moment that you have together and don't take anything for granted. Stay up late on a Tuesday night, get involved on campus, meet as many people as possible, and do well in school so you can succeed.

These were the fastest and best four years of my life. Merrimack College, I am beyond blessed for everything and everyone I have met. Thank you Merrimack, see you soon. Cheers to a time where distance means love. Sending all my love to everyone, especially my seniors.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
